About me and my therapy practice

The loss of people or things can bring anxiety and depression as we struggle to take care of our own needs and wellbeing. By focusing on the root of the matter, we can make some lasting and meaningful changes.

The way we talk to others and ourselves is a window to what’s going on inside. My counselling space is a place for you to explore what that is. We can be too easily swept up in the day-to-day and in our long ingrained habits and beliefs that it takes dedicated time and focus to unravel what really is causing us pain, the grudges and guilt. What really is behind the ‘shoulds’ and ‘musts’ that we say?

I have a focus on bereavement counselling as I believe that all pain can be attributed to loss and grief over a life that was or a life that could have been. The theories of grief can help us make sense of our anguish when we lose a relationship, a job, as well as the passing of a loved one. I offer sessions on Zoom, telephone, and in-person.

My goal is to help you identify what the mismatch is between where you currently are and where you want to be. I believe that once we truly understand and accept the difference, we can begin to figure out how to bridge the gap. Some of the conflicting factors can stem from upbringing or neurodiversity too and you are welcome to explore these.

There may be certain thoughts, feelings or behaviours that you would like to change. My goal is to help you identify the real problem, rather than jumping into solutions, so that changes can come about more smoothly and hopefully last longer. After laying out the landscape in the first session or two, I invite you to explore various contributing factors at your own pace.

My intention is to follow alongside you to help you uncover what might be going on, to raise self-awareness and self-compassion, encouraging you to notice what may be of value to you and what perhaps continues out of habit but no longer serves you.

Testimonials

"From the very first session, Jen created a space where I felt heard and understood. Her compassionate approach, combined with her professionalism and expertise, made a positive difference. What I appreciate most is that Jen meets me where I am, without judgment, and helps me explore my thoughts and feelings in a way that feels safe and empowering. She asks insightful questions, offers helpful perspectives, and gives me the tools I need to navigate life's challenges. Her support has been invaluable, not just in addressing specific issues, but in helping me grow as a person overall. I leave each session feeling lighter, more grounded, and more equipped to handle whatever comes my way. I truly feel like she is invested in my well-being and my growth, and I can see how much progress I've made with Jen's guidance. She's been a game-changer for me, and I am beyond grateful for the positive impact Jen's had on my life."

“This was the first time I did any type of therapy or counselling and I always had a bit of negative view towards it. I thought 'it wouldn't help me, I wouldn't be able to open up so what's the point'. Jen made it extremely easy to talk and open up. I felt very comfortable and happy to share. I found that she asked questions and the right questions at the right time. Helping me challenge myself and actually really think about how I was feeling. It has had a tremendous impact on my daily life and Jen prepared me well to take the lessons forward in my day life. I came to Jen in a not good place, things that I was very shameful, angry and distraught about. Jen made it extremely easy to open up about these, she didn't belittle them but helped me concentrate on things I could control and good elements I had been implementing, again asking the right questions to drive me forward. I am extremely grateful to Jen, she set me on the right path going forward and would highly recommend her.”

My general availability is Mondays to Fridays (9 am - 5.30 pm).

About me and my therapy practice

I am currently completing my training to be a qualified supervisor on a CPCAB Level 6 course and offering 1-2-1 supervision online for counsellors either monthly for £40 an hour or fortnightly for £30 for 45 minutes.

Counsellors must be CPCAB Level 4 Diploma qualified or equivalent. These supervision hours would count towards BACP membership requirements - https://www.bacp.co.uk/membership/registered-membership/guide-to-supervision/.

Practice description

My background is in person-centred counselling, qualifying in 2016, and accredited with BACP in 2022. Most of my client work has been online with private clients and insurance referrals dealing with grief/loss and anxiety. I can also be a useful addition to your primary supervisor to explore setting up a private practice, working with race and ethnicity, or working towards accreditation.

My aims as a supervisor are to help you build competence and confidence in your practice – to help you feel less stuck with client work; to develop your own internal supervisor; and to recognise and uphold the professional boundaries and ethical framework that matter to you.

Testimonials from peer group supervision colleagues:

“Supervision with Jen felt insightful, person-centred, and professional. Jen is an experienced therapist and her professional knowledge was an absolute asset to our supervision process and I felt so held and full of growth every time I came out of our group supervision. I would highly recommend Jen to any person-centred counsellors!”

“I’ve been in a peer supervision group with Jen for over a year now. I rate many things about her supervision. Her style is a good balance of support and challenge. Her breadth of knowledge makes her one of my go-to people for professional advice. I particularly appreciate her can-do attitude and excellent organisation skills – they’ve helped me to go out of my comfort zone, while at the same time, remaining grounded and practical."

My first session

The first session is an opportunity to discover our fit and explore your past experiences of supervision and how you would like to use supervision.
