I am a humanistic psychotherapeutic counsellor with a faith in the human potential to develop in a positive direction. I believe we have our own path to cut through the woods in our unique life journey. In the counselling process I am a confidential companion for a part of your journey. I can help you make meaning of your experiences and in navigating your personal challenges.
I take a non-discriminatory, LGBTQI+ affirmative, experiential, Person Centred approach. I believe neurodiversity is a difference and not a disorder. I take a non-judgemental, relational, holistic approach, alive to all aspects of self and factors outside of self. I believe the body keeps the score and we all have experiential resources that can help us more than we may think. My approach is gentle and follows the client’s lead to what is discussed, that is curious about felt senses and learning from what we are experiencing in the moment.
Other people can and do help us feel loved and valued yet also the reverse. My approach recognises feelings of aloneness and how in our interior life we can agonise over our behaviours, choices and the quality of our relationships.
What has happened to us affects our way of being in the present, particularly in terms of adverse childhood experiences. Quite often our story of those experiences or an absence of a story are based on childhood decisions and strategies. However, I support clients in drawing on their own internal resources to live in the present and find closure to unfinished business.
I hold the BACP professional qualification at Post-Graduate level in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the University of Brighton. I am also professionally certified in online and telephony based counselling (Open University/BACP and The Online Therapy Institute); Working At Relational Depth (CARA) and Child Protection in Education (Educare). A member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I practice within their ethical framework.
