About me and my therapy practice

Feeling disrupted and disconnected from your ‘normal’ self is so uncomfortable. Our system seeks balance and when we don’t feel we can achieve this with our usual strategies and our own resources seem stretched, a therapist can be useful.

As a qualified and experienced MBACP Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I have been working with young people and parents. Most of my work has been with neurodivergent people or people who have suffered traumatic relational experiences. Clients who have unresolved trauma endure dysregulating trauma symptoms. These emotions are usually accompanied by various behavioural patterns. Young people are faced with so many challenges around school avoidance, drugs, gang culture, self harm, etc... Neurodivergent persons can endure similar issues from navigating a world that is overwhelming or they are misunderstood and struggle to cope with the expectations. I have a good understanding of the difficulties highly sensitive people can face. Parents can find this enormously challenging to deal with in themselves or their children. They can enter into a blame and shame culture which leads to being stuck. Exploration and understanding are key to becoming unstuck and enabling your young person to thrive.

I have sound knowledge of child and young adult development and adverse childhood experiences. I also understand a parent’s accompanying journey. People I’ve worked with learn about themselves and their relationships. My understanding theoretically, practically and personally allows me to be able to sit person to person providing a solution focused environment.

My approach supports genuine relationships with your children. Encouraging your autonomy and authenticity, valuing the uniqueness of your young people. It enables clients to embrace the complexity in their relationships and deal with adversity, developing more empathy. Everyone is different so I respect and value each individual, their unique circumstances, background and culture.

Practice description

Primarily, my focus has been on attachment and the absolute necessity of a non judgemental, congruent and empathetic relationship. I create a warm space where clients feel safe enough to explore their experiences and feelings. I work from a person centred perspective, listening and exploring what’s going on in their lives and how they are feeling.

By supporting parents and carers to become emotionally engaged and approach their child with curiosity, I enable them to recognise that the young person’s behaviour is a form of communication of how they are feeling. We work on areas of tension, disappointments, griefs, depressions and worried or intrusive thoughts.

Parents can learn to self regulate and deal with their own anxieties putting them in a strong position to support their children. When parents pursue attunement and empathy towards their children, over time the children begin to trust then difficult behaviour patterns gradually reduce.

I work with adults, young adults and parents.

I hold a Diplomas in:

Studying - IOYO Level 7 in Children and Young Person Counselling

CPCAB Level 5 in Trauma in Counselling.

IOYO Level 7 in Children and Young Person Counselling - studying

Advanced DBS certificate.

Insurance HIS82808

As well as my private practice, I work with local charities including a young persons agency. I have worked with young people in various roles for over 14 years.
