About me and my therapy practice

I work with all ages but specialise in young adults, teenagers and children having spent my adult life immersed in helping young people and their parents/carers figure out how to deal with some of life’s difficult experiences.

My aim is to be the right support for either you or your child,  offering a safe, compassionate relationship to help bring joy and calm back into you and/or your child's life.

I’ve learned the safe development of a caring, supportive relationship is fundamental for personal change and working to create this with my client is paramount. It is evident in recent years there has been an increase in anxiety, sadness and/or loneliness amongst young people which is understandable with escalating educational pressures, the pandemic, managing social media, worries about climate change, as well as coping with the typical struggles with relationships, ambitions and coping with change.

It takes both courage and often distress to reach out for help – not only for the person who may not always be thinking of seeking help through a therapist, but also if you are a parent or carer seeking the right person to trust to work with their child. I aim to offer a place of safety where difficulties can be aired confidentiality, without fear of judgement or criticism, to help provide a way to improve a person’s quality of life. I want you to feel either you or your child is with a warm and competent therapist who is able to hold you or them when in distress while finding solutions or seeking acceptance.

I understand it’s not always easy to choose a person to trust to be alongside you on your therapeutic journey from a photo and some blurb, so I offer a phone consultation or zoom call before booking a first session to help put you at ease. Or if you do feel comfortable you can simply email me and we can book your first session – either in person or online.

Practice description

I have experience working as a school counsellor, within universities and for a charity specialising in sexual childhood trauma. I have worked within an inpatient child and adolescent mental health unit (CAMHS)

I have extensive experience working with clients suffering with anxiety and depression and can work in a range of ways to address these challenges. I've worked with clients with social, emotional and mental health difficulties who have experienced a range of adversities, including self-harm, depression, suicidal ideation, eating problems, bereavement, drug and alcohol abuse, violent tendencies, emotional based school avoidance, bullying online and in-person, anger and distress, as well as trauma – including sexual abuse or assault.

I work with adults who are parents/carers concerned about their children, helping navigate the sometimes challenging practical and emotional aspects of parenthood, or who are want to address their own childhood trauma which might be impacting on their relationship with their children. I understand and deeply care about the desire to be positive role models with healthy boundaries and the need to experience the love and joy of close and accepting relationships.

My first session

In our first session I will ask you about why you're seeking therapy now and what you hope to get from our work. I'll explain how I work and answer any questions you might have.

If you are a parent/carer looking for a therapist for your child, I will invite you to join the first part of the session - if your child would like this. As a mother of six children, two of whom are stepchildren, I recognise the importance of finding a warm, safe and competent therapist for you and/or your child to talk to, so I will spend time explaining how I work and how therapy might help.
