About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Sarah, and I practice depth psychotherapy and counselling in London and Hastings.
My approach is transpersonal integrative, which means that I tailor my therapeutic approach to my clients needs. I draw on different theoretical models including the psychodynamic model, Jung, Rogers, and Gestalt.
The transpersonal dimension is the deeper search for meaning, and is ultimately about connection to oneself, to others, and to the Universe. It is sometimes a lack of connectedness, felt as loneliness, which brings a person to therapy. The relationship with the therapist is key to the process of growth and healing, and I aim to promote this by providing an empathic, calm, confidential environment.
I help clients gain a deeper understanding of their self by working through blocks and difficulties, exploring why these may have arisen, and how to learn and move on from them.
Maybe what is needed is for the client to rediscover their creativity in order to find solutions to their life challenges. I can help facilitate this through creative techniques such as visualisations, role play, and sand tray. I am interested in dreams and how they can provide special insight into our lives and internal processes, and work with clients dreams if they are open to this. I also offer meditation and mindfulness techniques.
Therapy can be either long or short term, although psychotherapy is usually longer term, and activates more of the clients potential, than counselling, which is often to do with specific, current, issues. Counselling can progress to psychotherapy, as the client engages in the process of self development, which has been described as a feeling of 'Coming Home'.
