About me and my therapy practice

Counselling is a personal journey and one which sometimes takes a lot for a person to start. As such, finding the right Counsellor that you feel you can create a connection with is important. So here is a little bit about myself and my history.

I have been offering Counselling in one form or another for the past six years. My journey on this path began as a volunteer for the Samaritans where I developed my passion for helping people through listening and reflection. Since my volunteer days, I decided that counselling was the vocation for me and so I began my formal training so that I can help people full time.

Since then I have attained a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and am an Individual Member of the BACP working towards accreditation. As such my practice strictly adheres to the BACP ethical guidelines.

I offer counselling through an approach which is person or client led. This means that sessions revolve around you and what you bring to them. By working with what you bring, at your own pace, offering reflections in a safe and confidential environment, we are able to work together to implement interventions and solutions which are all the more powerful because they come from you.

Practice description

As mentioned above, my practice is predominantly person centred. I work with you to achieve your goals and aims and offer a safe space for you to explore what ever it is you wish to bring to session.

I find that the key to this is building an effective working relationship, being with you in the moment and questioning and reflecting what you say to me to ensure that I really do understand your point of reference.

My practice is predominantly online based, but I also offer some sessions face to face and also have a walk and talk offering also.

My first session

I offer an initial 20 minute consultation free of charge, within this consultation it is a chance for you to ask any questions you may have about the way I work and for us to get to know each other a little bit. It is also a chance for me to get an idea about the kind of aims and goals you are seeking from counselling and if it something that I would be able to help you with.

After this initial consultation, we will arrange our first session together. They usually last up to 50 minutes and will be taken completely at your pace, in a relaxed, confidential environment where you will be listened to and given a chance to talk about whatever is on your mind.

The beginning of the session we will usually go over the counselling contract, ensuring that we both understand how the counselling will work and that we are both on the same page. After this, the session will commence.

At the end of the session, if you feel comfortable, we will arrange a time and date for our next session.
