About me and my therapy practice

Are you finding relationships difficult? Have you been trying to put things right but nothing seems to change? Do you find yourself speaking or behaving in ways that feel uncomfortable but which you hope will help you to ‘fit in’ or keep the peace? Maybe you  you would like things to change but you are not sure what you can do to make this happen? I too have experienced this.

These feelings and behaviours are a common response where relationships go wrong and we feel belittled, excluded or even bullied or abused by others. Even years after the event, bullying can have an adverse impact on our health and relationships. Workplace bullying can be particularly difficult, leaving us feeling bad about ourselves, anxious, finding it hard to switch off and maybe even worried about our economic survival. This can lead to tensions at home, adding to the stress we feel.

Workplace stress more generally can be very distressing. Feeling overloaded or out of control can have a detrmental effect on our health. Prior to becoming a counsellor, I had a career in corporate HR and running my own business, so I understand workplace politics and stress, especially when combined with juggling the needs of home life.

I also work with people who have been bereaved or have suffered other losses such as separation, divorce, redundancy or ill-health. I too have experienced loss and understand what it is like.

Why am I the right counsellor for you? I have much life experience. I have also had counselling which helped me to make sense of what had happened to me. I hold an MA in Counselling and specialise in therapy for those who have been bullied.  I am also a trauma-informed practitioner. Clients tell me that I am understanding, that they feel safe with me and that they can tell me anything without fear of judgement.

I offer a free 30 minute consultation on Zoom. To arrange this email me at lynn.hickman63@protonmail.com. My website https://www.ridethewavescounselling.co.uk also contains a contact form.

Practice description

I am currently working online via Zoom. This allows me to work with clients who live beyond my geographical locality and also offers flexibility in the timing of sessions.

It is important that you choose the therapist for you. You need to feel comfortable with whoever you choose; you will be investing a significant amount of time,  emotional energy and financial resources in your counselling. You can find out more about me from my website

https://ridethewavescounselling.co.uk

You can also contact me for a free chat to see if we might be a 'good fit'. I can be reached at my secure email address:  lynn.hickman63@protonmail.com.

My first session

I offer a free initial 30 minute chat to provide a really important opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to decide if I am the right therapist for you.

If you then decide that you would like to proceed with therapy, we will begin our formal sessions. We will usually agree a certain number of sessions at the outset and we will review our work together on a regular basis to ensure that your needs are being met.

In the first session I will conduct an assessment, which means that I will ask you some questions covering your health and general wellbeing. I also explain the counselling contract, expectations for payment, how I will store your data and your confidentiality rights.
