About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome, my name is Laurie. I’m an integrative psychotherapist & counsellor offering a trauma-informed and relational space.

Life can often present us with many struggles and challenges, with recent or past events leaving us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, depressed or with a general feeling of being unhappy.

Navigating this alone can be difficult and well-meaning advice from family and friends, can drown out our own voice and take us away from own innate knowing.

Feeling heard and understood can be an empowering experience and together, we can support you to:

  • Reduce feelings of anxiety, depression and overwhelm;
  • Increase self-awareness and your understanding of the root cause of your current difficulties;
  • Help you to make sense of your experiences;
  • Develop and increase your capacity for self-compassion;
  • Find and/or regain a sense of ownership over your life;
  • Reconnect you with yourself, your voice and your needs;
  • Find confidence in who you truly are.

Whilst I take a “here-and-now” approach in my work, I understand that many of our childhood and/or past experiences can affect who we are today, often having an impact on how we feel towards ourselves and our outlook on life. For that reason, I integrate exploring your past, as well as more recent experiences, to support you to make sense of where you are today.

Difficult childhood or past experiences or trauma doesn’t necessarily mean abuse or neglect. Simply not feeling secure at any stage in our life, can leave a ripple effect for years to come.

My areas of expertise include; working with young adults (18-39), grief, bereavement & loss, anxiety (including social anxiety), depression, low self-esteem and excessive self-criticism/perfectionism.

Practice description

As a trauma-informed counsellor, it is my aim to offer you a warm, understanding, compassionate and non-shaming space that is yours, where you can discover who you really are.

There is no "one size fits all" approach in my practice - I believe the therapy process is as unique as the human experience and it is for this reason, I use a relational, socially-informed, holistic mind-body approach. Simply put, this means you are at the centre of our work and I tailor my approach to best suit your needs.

Whatever you wish to bring to your therapy space, if it matters to you, it matters.

After counselling with me, many of my clients’ have reported experiencing:

  • Feeling less anxious, depressed and/or stuck.
  • Feeling less overwhelmed and/or consumed by the experiences they were unable to make sense of.
  • A deeper understanding and awareness of their true self.
  • An increased sense of calm.
  • An increased ability to make better choices suited to their needs.
  • An increased ability to form and maintain more fulfilling relationships.
  • An increase in their capacity for self-compassion.
  • An increase in their self-esteem and self-confidence.
  • Being more present in their own lives and not feeling they need to shrink or change themselves to please others.

Counselling isn’t just for crisis situations – engaging in mental health support earlier, can help to alleviate immediate distress and prevent you from reaching crisis point.

My first session

I warmly invite you to contact me to book an initial 50-minute session, which will provide a space to explore the issues that bring you to counselling and any relevant background history. We will also use this time to talk through our working agreement together.

If you would like more information before proceeding or you are still feeling unsure, I also offer a free, introductory call for 15 minutes which allows us to get a sense of how we might work together, your hopes and expectations of the therapy process and I can answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Counselling involves talking about some deep and personal experiences so finding a counsellor who is a good fit is important.

I know from my own experiences of therapy that it takes courage to take that first step and it is common to experience a feeling of anxiousness, nervousness or apprehension before a first session. It is for these reasons that I aim to ensure you feel relaxed, settled and comfortable.

About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome, my name is Laurie. I’m an integrative psychotherapist & counsellor and trainee supervisor.

Supervision with me is a chance to collaboratively explore, reflect and get curious about what’s happening in your work with your clients, so you can continue providing that valuable therapeutic space, whilst maintaining your own wellbeing.

I’m trained in the seven-eyed model of supervision, which allows us to consider all of the relationships that occur between client-counsellor-supervisor and how this can impact on the therapeutic process. As an integrative/eclectic counsellor, I embrace the diversity of counselling modalities and ways of working with clients; including, honing our abilities to connect with and trust our intuition in our work. I also love a bit of creativity and adore metaphor work so can help you to integrate this into both your client work and/or supervision space if you like to work “outside of the box”.

Practice description

My counselling practice aims to provide a relational, socially-informed and non-shaming space and I aim to mirror this in my supervision work. The weight of our client work can be heavy and having a supervisory space where we can speak openly and honestly, can help us to find some breathing space and ensure we are taking care of ourselves too.

I believe supervision to be a dynamic and changing-space as you grow and develop as a practitioner and I aim to tailor our space together to suit your needs.

I work exclusively-online, having built a successful private practice working remotely and I can share this knowledge with you, to support you with incorporating online and telephone work into your practice.
