About me and my therapy practice
Hello and a warm welcome to my profile page. Your wellbeing is at the centre of my practice, and I aim to provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for working through any problems or issues you may be facing.
I specialise in (but not restricted to) bereavement, loss, anxiety, trauma, work issues, low self-worth, relationship issues, depression, panic disorder, feeling sad and family issues.
I understand how difficult starting counselling can be and will hope to answer any questions you have. I am here to provide a calm space to explore with you what is going on in your life, whether or not you know what might have brought you to this point.
My role is not to diagnose, advise or tell you what to do. My role is to support and help you explore and understand what you're struggling with. We will work together to find out what it is you wish to change and how you can make those changes.
During counselling I focus on the individual as a whole. I encourage you to explore your feelings and understand your thoughts and actions with an emphasis on developing your self-awareness. Our counselling relationship is essentially one of mutual trust and respect.
As well as my private practice, I also volunteer at a leading mental health charity.
Practice description
I offer face to face weekly counselling sessions for adults in the Thame area. I also offer counselling online and if you have a preference for working in this way, we can discuss this at an initial assessment session. Each session lasts 50 minutes. The work can be short-term or longer-term open-ended therapy with regular reviews to check that the counselling is meeting your needs.
Using an integrative model to counselling practice I include a humanistic approach which aims to foster and develop a therapeutic relationship within a non-judgemental and empathic space. I adhere to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy’s ethical framework, ensuring safety and confidentiality throughout our work together.
There are some misconceptions about what happens in counselling and for some there is a fear that if you don’t know what is ‘wrong’ then attending counselling won’t help. This isn't the case, there doesn't need to be a ‘reason’. If you don’t feel ‘right’, then talking things through will give you the space to gain some clarity on your feelings.
Sometimes it is hard to make sense of things by yourself or to gain perspective from talking to friends and family. Taking time to tell your story within a non-judgemental therapeutic relationship can bring clarity and empowerment, enabling you to discover new ways of managing life’s challenges.
