About me and my therapy practice
Hello, as I think about what to write here, I am curious about how you, the reader, might be feeling, about what might have happened and what you might be needing in this moment.
Perhaps something has happened that has turned your world upside down. Maybe life feels overwhelming, or you feel lost, alone, misunderstood. Whatever the reason, thank you for reading so far.
I am a person-centred counsellor and provide a compassionate and supportive space where I aim for you to feel heard, understood, accepted and cared for. A space where you are treated with respect, kindness and dignity. We will work together to deeply understand your experience and discover what you might need in this moment.
I am also a qualified adoption support counsellor having completed further training and support adults wanting to explore the impact of adoption and fostering. This could be from your experience as an adoptee, an adopter, a birth family member or your experience around fostering including SGO and kinship care.
Practice description
I work within a person centred framework with the focus on ‘being with’ you as you explore what is troubling you. Sometimes this might mean exploring experiences from the past or lost dreams or hopes for the future. My aim is to meet you where you are and to offer a therapeutic space where you feel heard, understood and cared for.
I am passionate about supporting people experiencing life's challenges including those experiences or events that change the life you thought you were going to live, that can bring changes that feel overwhelming and often bring a sense of grief and loss. These include bereavement or relationship breakdown and less recognised experiences such as traumatic events, living with chronic or life-limiting health conditions or being childless not by choice.
Counselling with me can help support you by providing a compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can express yourself and explore your inner world gaining more understanding of yourself and discovering what you might need in this moment. As you explore your inner world you start to become aware of your strengths, to make sense of your emotions and identify possible barriers that might be holding you back from thriving.
It is such a privilege to be a witness to clients as they start to understand themselves more and find a way of being in the world that is meaningful to them.
My first session
Before arranging the first session, I offer a free no-obligation introductory telephone or video call to explore how counselling can help where you are at the moment and to answer any questions you may have. It also provides a space for you to start to get a feel of who I am.
We will then arrange the first session. This is a slightly longer session than subsequent sessions to provide space to start to explore your situation and how we might work together as well as to complete some of the administrative tasks. This includes reviewing the agreement which provides a framework for our work together. This first session will be for between 60 and 75 minutes. Subsequent sessions are for 50 minutes.
We may also agree on an estimated number of sessions to act as a rough guide for our time together. This could be from a few sessions to longer-term work. There will be regular reviews of our work and space given for you to decide whether to end, pause or continue with the counselling.
