About me and my therapy practice

Sometimes our head and our heart speak two different languages and this can leave us feeling confused and overwhelmed. I can help you if you feel this way.

There's an old proverb that says: “Don't chase the butterfly, mend your garden and let the butterfly come”.

Butterflies in our tummy are the direct response of our nervous system. Something is making us feel nervous and that causes a redirection of blood flow from our stomach.

It is often easier to identify what it is that makes us feel nervous as it's happening in that moment. However, anxiety can be more difficult to figure out.

I have experience working with many different clients who present with a wide range of issues. Even though I specialise in bereavement, I believe that feelings of loss and disappointment, take on many different forms.

Thoughts and feelings impact us in our daily lives and often present themselves in unusual patterns of behaviour making life and relationships feel difficult and challenging. When things don't go as planned (which can sometimes feel like the norm) well, that's when we lash out, get down on ourselves, or work ourselves into a frenzy for a quick fix.

I facilitate an opportunity to simply slow things down. I offer a safe, non-judgmental quiet space so we can sit together and explore thoughts and feelings one step at a time. By establishing a secure relationship you will have an opportunity to feel seen and heard, quite often for the first time. Feelings of trust and safety help you experience a deeper understanding for yourself. As you begin to feel less stuck, you can begin to consider more helpful coping strategies.

I work in a way which empowers you so that you can mend and move forward in your own unique way. As you begin to sit with the way life is, you become better equipped to simply let the butterfly come.

Practice description

I am a BACP registered, fully qualified and experienced therapist with a Master’s Degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Regent's University London.

Being an integrative therapist means that I can use and access a wider range of concepts and techniques. This ensures that I tailor our work to suit your individual needs.

I work holistically with both mind and body. As the head and heart begin to communicate, the mind and body begin to integrate. An integrated person feels more whole and complete.

I review progress regularly with you. This allows for an assessment of your needs and an opportunity to adjust and/or establish new goals.

If you'd like to see if we can work together, feel free to text or call me on 07305 161 387 and leave a message. We can then arrange a suitable time to speak. There is no obligation and no charge for the 30-minute initial consultation.

My first session

The primary focus of our first session is arranged in a way to help you feel at ease. We start by checking to see how you feel about counselling. We also have a chat about what's troubling you and what it is you'd like to bring to the sessions.

Whatever is discussed during our counselling sessions is confidential. My work is bound by the Code of Ethics and Good Practice of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Together we will read through the counselling agreement. This agreement sets up our therapeutic framework so we can work safely and comfortably together. I also work under regular supervision within a professional frame to ensure the best possible service for you.

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes each. These are usually provided on a weekly basis at the same time and on the same day. The required notice for cancellations or changes is 7 days.

You may opt for long term, short term or ad-hoc sessions. We can discuss fees and talk about your requirements to see what might suit your needs.
