About me and my therapy practice

There are many times in life when we are faced with challenges, or simply feel stuck. This may feel too overwhelming to cope with on our own, even with the support of loved ones. Therapy can be a place of support, exploration and sometimes change.

Being heard

I provide a non-judgemental and confidential space where we can talk about what’s going on for you. Together, we’ll find the best ways to support you and give you the means to take good care of yourself. Often simply being able to express difficult feelings or tell your story to a professional is a vital first step.

Exploring and understanding

On this foundation, I bring my professional experience and training, which enable me to work with you to begin to explore your experience of life. This is an opportunity to go beyond ‘just living’ (or perhaps even ‘just surviving’); it enables you to reflect on your present experience.

I believe that real and lasting change requires understanding ourselves and our histories. This process can include bringing the unconscious to conscious light; understanding the initial causes of unhelpful behaviours; acknowledging the impact of the world we live in.

Acceptance and Change

Many people come to therapy with a sense that something in their life needs to change. For some, the journey from ‘understanding’ to ‘changing’ can be challenging, but possible. For others, the changes that we want may feel overwhelming - perhaps a relationship that’s come to an end or the resolution of big societal challenges — and so the focus shifts to finding ways to live a full life within these limitations. Accepting ourselves for who we are - perhaps letting go of a requirement to change for others – can be just as powerful. Therapy does not promise change, but it can offer hope. Moreover, it offers a space where we can take a break from the demands of our regular lives, to slow things down and begin to make some sense of our feelings.

Practice description

I chose this career because I was trying to find a sense of purpose, in a way that wasn’t being satisfied elsewhere in my life. Making meaning out of life feels important to me as it is to everyone. I see therapy as a path to knowing ourselves better and enjoying a more fulfilling life.

Integrative therapy incorporates a wide range of psychotherapeutic theories and techniques. By being non-prescriptive, it takes into account individual differences and circumstances.

My approach looks at how our past can inform and shape our experience of the present. Therapy with me may also explore areas such as how feeling is experienced in the body, on issues around identity and our place in the world, and on more existential themes around life, loss, crisis and death. For those who are more interested in the specifics of my approach, we can of course discuss it further in session; in short, I work relationally, incorporating both psychodynamic and humanistic thinking

About me and my therapy practice

There are many times in life when we are faced with challenges, or simply feel stuck. This can be too overwhelming to cope with alone, even with the help of loved ones. Therapy can be a place of support, exploration and sometimes change.

Exploring & understanding

On this foundation, I will work with you to begin exploring your experience of life. This is an opportunity to go beyond ‘just living’ (or perhaps even ‘just surviving’); it is an opportunity to slow down repeated thought patterns, to genuinely experience your feelings, and to reflect on the present in the light of the past. Working in this way can offer more than just a different perspective, it can also bring about a deeper understanding of your life.

I believe that real, lasting change requires understanding ourselves and our histories. This process can happen in a number of ways, including understanding the initial causes of unhelpful behaviours and acknowledging the impact of the world we live in.

Acceptance & change

Many people come to therapy with a sense that something in their life needs to change. For some, the journey from ‘understanding’ to ‘changing’ can be challenging, but possible. For others, the changes that we want are unattainable or overwhelming - perhaps the end of a relationship or wider societal conflicts — and so the focus may be on finding ways to live a full life creatively within these limitations. Accepting ourselves for who we are - perhaps letting go of a requirement to change for others – can be just as powerful. Therapy does not promise change, but it can offer hope. Moreover, it offers a space where we can take a break from the demands of life and begin to make some sense of our feelings.

I am open to working with a wide range of areas or issues that you might be experiencing. I have a particular interest in working with people who would not normally come for therapy, or for whom it’s their first time.

I have a diploma in Integrative Counselling from The Minster Centre, one of Europe’s oldest and leading integrative training institutions. I am a registered member of the British Council for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their code of ethics. I am also fully insured. I have worked with individuals on both short-term, long-term and open-ended basis. I have also worked at private and not-for-profit therapy services.

My concessionary slots are currently full. If you are interested in starting therapy with me, or have any other questions, please contact me here. We can arrange a time to have an initial session which is charged at half my rate, where we will explore what has brought you to therapy and I will ask you some questions about your background. This will be an opportunity for you to ask me any questions.

If we decide to continue, we will agree a weekly time. If after an initial session I feel you are best suited to another therapist, I will signpost you to a colleague or offer relevant resources.
