Therapeutic Play Psychotherapy

Availability changes as clients change but I try to offer sessions outside of school hours.

Sessions run in a 16-week block of regular, weekly sessions. This will be reviewed at 8 weeks where we (the parent, child and I) will potentially agree to finish at 16 weeks or extend the therapy further. I work through the term time and often school holidays to ensure consistency for your child.

About me and my therapy practice

I’m Lucy (she/ her) the founder of Green Sky Counselling and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and Play Therapy UK (PTUK). I have been working with children, young people and adults in a range of roles for over twelve years. I have experience in supporting people with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief, stress and many other difficulties that may be causing tangled thoughts and feelings. I will not tell you what to do, never judge and find connecting with people and sharing trust is a privilege, helping you feel supported to share whatever is troubling you.

Green Sky Counselling offers a range of confidential therapy sessions to young people 11+ and adults in the BCP and wider Dorset areas. I also offer Therapeutic Play Counselling sessions to children aged 5 - 13.

I have experience in supporting adults as a counsellor with a variety of presenting issues and changes they wish to make. I have worked with adults on a 1:1 basis and in group equine therapy.

I have over twelve years of experience working and supporting children and young people aged between 4 -19 years in a variety of roles. This includes working as a counsellor and children and young people’s safeguarding, alongside other local charity work and agencies to ensure young people can access services available to them.

I hold a deep passion for learning and furthering my professional development in the field of psychotherapy, believing it is never too late to sign up for more studying, training and research.

Practice description

Talking therapy

In a quiet location in Parkstone, Poole, I offer talking therapy sessions from a secluded and confidential Coach House.

The Coach House is warm and welcoming with a homely yet professional feel, with its own access.

I listen and offer a safe place to talk, helping you find your own answers without judgement. Together, we can make sense of things and resolve or find a way to live with complicated feelings.

I can help you recognise unhelpful patterns in the way you think and behave, finding ways to change them if that is what you want to do.

Therapeutic Play 5 - 13 years

Integrating Therapeutic Play as the foundation of child’s counselling sessions has huge benefits in enabling children to explore what is troubling them in a non-confrontational way.

The adult expectation of conveying feelings through words is not expected or required in this therapeutic approach.

This style of therapy helps children explore their individual experiences and responses to their world in a deeply meaningful but safe way, resulting in them feeling less overwhelmed and making things more manageable over time.

Walk and talk therapy

This is where the therapeutic components of talking therapy remain but are simply taken outdoors.

Walking side by side can be much less intimidating and helps release inhibition.

This style of therapy can benefit many people, as maybe you like the outdoors or work/spend lessons inside a building and don’t get a chance to be outdoors much.

Being outdoors is intrinsically linked to allowing our thoughts to come free. Whether still or walking, we will work at a pace that suits you.

Creative Therapy

Integrating creativity into sessions will always be the client’s choice. This is not about being good at creative arts but nourishing our creative avenues.

Creativity in therapy allows symbolic expression and communication, making all the difference to someone finding it hard to put their thoughts and feelings into words.

My first session

Adult and Young People Counselling Sessions

If you are interested in working together please contact reach out to me, so we can arrange a brief introductory conversation, up to 15 minutes, giving us the opportunity to meet and for you to ask any questions you may have.

Following this introduction, and if you decide to continue, we will arrange a full 50-minute initial consultation session, which will allow us to explore what has brought you to counselling in more detail, what you would like to gain from sessions together, and your background and history. There is no obligation to agree to sessions following this consultation.

If you would like to move forward in sessions together, we will then agree on a day and time that suits us both and discuss whether you would like talking therapy, walk-and-talk therapy or a mixture of both.

Therapeutic Play Psychotherapy Sessions

If you feel Integrated Therapeutic Play Counselling can support your child, please email me with a brief overview of how your child is struggling and I will send you a short Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ).

After this, we can arrange a brief introductory call, up to 15 minutes. If you decide that I could be the right therapist for your child, we will arrange to meet for the initial consultation.

Initial Consultation (50 minutes) - I will meet the parent/carers during this session, likely when the child is at school. This will be an opportunity for you to meet me in person and ask any questions you may have.
