About me and my therapy practice

I offer a warm, patient, down to earth approach, so that together we can explore areas that you may be finding confusing, challenging or sad.

Sometimes our thoughts and feelings can be so confused that we just don't know where to start. Well-meaning friends and family want to help, but we can't find the words, or maybe it feels too personal to share with them. When we do open up, perhaps we get unwanted advice, or see them worry and treat us differently, which can make things harder.

By contrast, counselling offers a confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences with someone who is trained to listen and understand. This may involve looking at what is happening in the present, as well as gently understanding how past experiences or relationships may still be shaping things now.

You decide what you want to bring, and I will support you in that process. Together we can work towards greater understanding, discover new perspectives and explore ways of moving towards a life that feels more authentic and satisfying.

Practice description

I work with adults and young people from the age of 11 in my private practice, as well as working in schools providing counselling to both staff and students, group facilitation, workshops and psycho-education.

Whether I am working with adults or young people, the foundation of my work is Person Centred with a pluralistic perspective. Non-judgemental listening, respect, honesty and good humour sit at the heart of my practice. I believe that within each of us there is a natural drive towards growth. My aim is to provide an environment of warmth, empathy and understanding which can help that drive within you to flourish.

I bring a combination of knowledge, training and life experience to my work. My background in the performing arts also gives me a particular understanding of the creative process and its connection to how we experience and express ourselves. If this is meaningful to you, your own creative language and process can become part of our work together.

I offer counselling in person or online, and both long-term and short-term work. Sometimes just a few sessions can make a difference, while other people find they need time to build a relationship and explore more deeply. We can discuss what feels right for you.

Fees are £60. Sessions are 1 hour for adults and 50 minutes for young people under 18.

I offer limited reduced-fee spaces for clients experiencing financial hardship. Discounted rates are available to trainee counsellors and members of the Musicians' Union, Equity and Bectu.

People of all races, heritage, religions, genders and sexual orientations are welcome in my practice.

My first session

It is important that you find a counsellor who feels right for you, and equally important that we both feel we can work together. I therefore offer a free 20 minute telephone conversation before you book.

During this introductory call you can, if you wish, share some brief details about why you are seeking counselling. We can discuss how I work and what you can expect, and you will have an opportunity to ask any questions so that you can decide whether you would like to book an initial session.

I am also happy to offer referrals where necessary so that you can find the help you need.

The first counselling session can seem daunting, however seeking help is sometimes the bravest and strongest thing we can do. My aim is to offer a warm, comfortable environment where you can begin to feel at ease. Sharing problems within a safe counselling environment can bring clarity to what you are struggling with and the strength to move through it.
