About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified counsellor and a trainee transactional analysis psychotherapist.

I work relationally, and I believe that therapy works best when we are both bringing ourselves to the room and seeing how we interact with each other and how that can help you make the changes to your life that you are looking for.

I believe that we all learnt things from our parents, our significant early relationships, our culture, our religion and our society during childhood. What we learn helps us to adapt to the world and survive in it. However, sometimes what we learn no-longer helps us navigate the world and we find ourselves stuck and wanting to make changes. This is where I can help. I can give you time to think about your past, your earliest memories and your upbringing and help you consider if what you learnt is still helpful to you now or help you explore if there is a better way of doing things.

I specialise in working with women who have experienced domestic or sexual abuse, women who have experienced sexual assault or rape, people who have problems with hoarding and those who have significant trauma from their past which may include childhood neglect or PTSD.

I have also worked successfully with people who consider themselves neurodivergent and who may have a diagnosis of Autism or ADHD, or suspect that they may do. I do not offer assessments for these.

Practice description

I work face-to-face from my therapy room in my garden. You access the premises via my garden gate.

I believe the path is wide enough for a wheelchair, and I have small french doors to allow a wheelchair into the room. There is a small lip to go over the doorframe.

I prefer to work weekly with clients because I believe this is the best way of building a solid relationship. Meeting fortnightly allows too much time between sessions and momentum can be lost.

I invoice clients at the start of each month and payments are made for the month ahead before the first session of the month.

I charge £55 for individual sessions and £80 for couple sessions.

Initial sessions are charged at £40 for individuals and £60 for couples.

More details about my practice are available on my website.

My first session

I start with an initial phonecall of around 15-20 minutes so you can give me a brief outline of why you are seeking counselling. If you are happy to proceed we book an initial session. This is at a reduced rate because it may take you several attempts to find the right therapist for you. At the end of the session we will decide if we want to work together. There is no obligation, and you are welcome to go away to make your decision.

If you think you would like to work with me, then I usually suggest that we book 6 sessions to start our work together and then review how we're getting on during session six.

I find that six sessions pass very quickly and we may not have got to the root of the matter during this time, however, for many people committing to long-term therapy is daunting and it is often easier to to commit to fewer sessions initially. I regularly check-in with my clients during their therapy to see that they are getting what they want from their sessions.
