About me and my therapy practice

Hello

I am trained as an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor, which means I draw on a range of theories and concepts in our work together.

Underpinning my work is my belief that we all have a human desire to feel whole and connected, with ourselves and with others. Yet, this can seem unreachable. I will help you explore those parts of your experience that may prevent you feeling this way, and always hold in mind how difficult this can be.

Our work will be centred around my endeavour to understand you and your world as you experience it, and through this, help you gain an understanding of yourself, which in turn will the facilitate change you desire.

I have experience working with specific conditions, such as BPD, and also a variety of more generalised issues, such as anxiety, depression, bereavement, identity, unresolved trauma, and low self esteem.

I have experience working for mental health organisations in Norwich, art both Mind and St Barnabas Counselling centre before setting up private practice.

Practice description

I am open to exploring any issue that you bring to counselling.

I will:

  • Listen to you in order to understand your experience of the world.
  • Provide the opportunity to form a therapeutic relationship in which you feel safe to explore aspects of yourself and your relationships, which may not be safe to talk or think about in other parts of your life.
  • Encourage discussion of our relationship, to check in on how you are experiencing the process, but also to help us unravel what might be happening in other relationships and areas of your life.
  • Work creatively with, and remain open to, what emerges in our sessions.

Trust and safety are essential to this process, and I work with honesty and openness, both to your experience and about mine in our work together.

Our process together can be short or long term, and this is something we decide together, depending on individual needs.

My first session

You are welcome to contact me by phone or email if you have any questions or would like to set up an initial appointment.

In this session, which is free, you will have the opportunity to describe the issues you are experiencing that have prompted you to seek help.  I will also tell you a little about myself, my training and the counselling I offer. The initial session is really a chance for you to have a taster of what it will be like working with me, and gain an insight into what sessions will be like, to help you make an informed decision about whether to go ahead with sessions.

Part of this process will be to discuss your needs and for us to decide, together, whether short, medium or long term counselling will be helpful.
