My first session
In our first session, I begin with a comprehensive assessment to understand your current situation and what you hope to achieve through counselling. This initial assessment is a gentle and collaborative process designed to help me get to know you better and tailor our sessions to your specific needs.
What to Expect in the First Session:
- Assessment and Understanding
- I will ask about your mental health journey, including any previous therapy experiences, your support network, and your current feelings. This helps to create a complete picture of your unique circumstances.
- Your Goals:
- We'll discuss what you hope to achieve through counselling. Whether it's managing anxiety, overcoming depression, improving self-esteem, or any other goal, understanding your objectives is key to creating a personalised therapy plan.
- Confidential and Safe Environment:
- I ensure that our first meeting, like all our sessions, is held in a safe, confidential space where you can speak freely without judgement.
- Initial Impressions and Comfort:
- This session also gives you the chance to see if you feel comfortable with me as your counsellor. It's important that you feel a connection and trust, as this is crucial for effective therapy.
- Practical Information:
- We will cover practical aspects such as session frequency, duration, and fees. If you have any questions about the therapy process or my approach, this is a great time to discuss them.
- Setting the Framework:
- I will explain the structure of our future sessions and what you can expect, helping to set a clear framework for our work together.
By the end of our first session, you will have a clearer understanding of how we can work together and what the next steps will be in your counselling journey. This session is the foundation for our therapeutic relationship, ensuring that it is built on trust, understanding, and mutual respect.
