About me and my therapy practice

My name is Wendy Churchill and I am a Relate trained Relationship Counsellor and Psychosexual Therapist

I am experienced at working with couples and individuals at every stage in a relationship and I offer friendly effective counselling either face-to-face in my private counselling room in Wells or via Zoom.

My aim in counselling is to provide you with a safe, caring, confidential and supportive space to allow couples and individuals to explore and understand themselves and their relationship.

I have worked with a wide range of problems including communication difficulties, anxiety, depression, divorce, affairs, self esteem, grief, issues of trust, difficulties with the wider family, cultural differences, and changes in the relationship such as a new baby, illness, retirement and many more.

Relationship Counselling

Relationship counselling will offer you time and space to reflect on your patterns of behaviour and to help you understand why you feel and respond the way you do.

It doesn’t matter if you’re on your own, married, living together, single, gay, lesbian, bi/pansexual, straight or transgender I am here to help you to find yourself and to understand your place in whatever relationship you are in.

Sex Therapy

Sex Therapy is a specialised type of talking therapy that is designed to help individuals and couples address the underlying factors that may impact on sexual satisfaction. The goal of Sex Therapy is to enable people to move past physical and emotional challenges to have a fulling sex life.

My aims is to help people to understand themselves, their history and their relationships so that the underlying issues beneath any sexual problems such as anxiety, trauma, stress, and identity/confidence, can be addressed.

Sex Therapy starts with an initial assessment to see whether Sex Therapy is right for you at this time. If we decide that Sex Therapy is appropriate for you at this time then we will agree to meet on a regular basis to explore the issues you have raised.

Practice description

I endeavour to create a warm, non-judgemental therapeutic relationship where we can focus on you and your situation. I will work with you to find an understanding of your concerns, your deeper needs and how they are affecting your relationships.

When you start the counselling process, I will be aiming to understand as much as possible about the perspectives of each member of the couple.

My intention will be that each person feels heard and given equal space to express their thoughts and feelings.

Another part of my role is to facilitate good communication between you and your partner and also to help you understand your situation as fully as possible. To that end, at times, I will highlight and reflect back important points that are made and also invite further exploration of potentially significant areas.

A key priority for me is to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel secure and confident to express your thoughts and feelings as openly and honestly as possible. I will also be seeking to understand the influences and back story of each person and how these impact on the couple relationship. In doing so, I will invite each person to expand their own self-awareness and interest in their partner’s internal world.

Sessions

Sessions last for an hour and I can work with you either in person in Wells or via ZOOM. Sessions are normally held weekly but where this is impractical because of your circumstances then an alternative arrangement can be discussed and agreed. We will agree an agenda for the work at the start of your counselling and review this regularly to ensure that your requirements are met.

Flexibility

I am available for sessions Monday to Friday from early mornings through to the evenings (8 am to 7:30 pm).

Fees

The fee for each session is £80 for Relationship Counselling and £85 for Psychosexual Therapy. Payment is due before each session.
