About me and my therapy practice
As someone who has suffered from anxiety in the past, I realise the stigma attached to mental health. Quite often clients can feel misunderstood and invisible. I got into counselling to give clients a voice and to speak candidly about their mental health challenges. I can support you with processing feelings of fear, anger, sadness and emotional uncertainty. Our therapy sessions together can help by:
- Providing a safe space for you to talk.
- Empower you to process and challenge difficult situations, emotions and relationships.
-Support you navigate through anxiety, stress and depression.
- Increase your self awareness and curiosity about how you behave and relate to others.
My specialty is focused on Relationship issues, Dating Coaching, Anger management, Couples Therapy, Social Anxiety, Food Issues, and Body Dysmorphia.
I have previously worked for IAPT which is an NHS Primary Mental Health Service. I am currently working with young students within the further education sector supporting their mental health needs.
My motto as a counsellor is not to change you but to empower you to accept the life you have and changes you may want to make. Self acceptance is a key element in my work with clients. I have learnt that it is through failures and life's adversities that our real strength lies.
I respect diversity and being a South Asian Female Therapist can identify and relate to cultural challenges that some clients may encounter. I also honor and respect your space and what matters to you.
Practice description
As an Integrative counsellor, I use Psychodynamic, Person-Centered and Solution focused (CBT)therapy elements in my work with clients. At our initial consultation, we can work together to explore which type of therapy is suitable to your personal needs.
CBT techniques in our therapy work can help you challenge negative thoughts, change unhealthy behaviour patterns and empower you to feel more balanced in your way of thinking.
Sometimes there may be uncertainty as to what it is you need from therapy and in such circumstances, feeling listened too can feel extremely empowering. Exploring your past in therapy sessions can also be useful in understanding your past trauma, and the way you behave and relate to other people.
The focus of my therapeutic work is on you and I want to empower you to get to a place of self acceptance and self compassion.
My first session
Prior to booking a first session, I arrange a free initial Zoom or telephone call with clients. This is a great way of connecting and for you to see if we can work together. I always want clients to feel comfortable and reassured. At this stage I also ask a client what it is that brings them to therapy. I want to understand your goals and ask questions about your life, triggering events and circumstances that have impacted your wellbeing.
