About me and my therapy practice

I am a counsellor who specialises in relationship difficulties, sex & sexuality, creativity and spiritual crisis. I work with people of all genders, and I am an LGBTQI+ positive counsellor.  Counselling itself is a therapeutic relationship which can bring you a deeper understanding of what’s causing you to relate to people in the way you are.

Relationship Difficulties

Perhaps the relationships in your life, romantic or otherwise, are not working as you would wish. Maybe you notice yourself sabotaging your relationships or pushing people away from you, leaving you lonely and isolated. Perhaps you feel constantly rejected and unworthy of affection.

Sex & Sexuality

Are you questioning your sexuality or gender identity, or struggling to find your place within the complex narratives that exist today? Are you facing struggles within your sex life? Perhaps you have experienced trauma around sex which is preventing you from exploring your sex life as you would wish. Maybe you have experienced an addiction to sex or pornography. Perhaps you would like to better understand a kink that you have.

Creativity

As a musician and performer myself, I know what it means to struggle creatively. Are there blockages to you achieving your creative potential? Do you find yourself lacking creative fulfilment in your life? If you are struggling with self-esteem around your creative endeavours, or want to understand how to bring more creativity into your life, then we can work together to help you achieve your creative potential.

Spiritual crisis

Do you find yourself longing for something deeper that you can’t define? Is there a void in you that seemingly cannot be filled? Have you suffered from spiritual abuse at the hands of a fundamentalist religious organisation? Spirituality can be confusing in the modern world, but I can help you make sense of your spiritual life on a practical level, so it can enhance your day-to-day life rather than hold you back.

Practice description

I work in a relational way: through building trust and understanding of one another we can co-create a relationship between us that will act as a powerful source of healing. Feeling seen and heard with compassion and understanding is a powerful thing, and as the trust builds between us and you feel comfortable to express more and and more vulnerability, then you can soon rediscover a connection with yourself that lost touch with a long time ago.

As the eminent psychologist and father of counselling Carl Rogers wrote: “We cannot change, we cannot move away from what we are, until we thoroughly accept what we are. Then change seems to come about almost unnoticed.” Through my continual open acceptance and commitment to your healing, and the growing self-awareness and self-acceptance you will feel, the healing happens in subtle and yet profound ways, almost of its own accord, while we work.

My first session

Our first session, sometimes called an assessment session, is to confirm that we are the right fit. You need to feel comfortable working with me, and I will need to make sure that I am the right counsellor for you. I will send you a contract beforehand, and we will go through this together in the session, I will also do a risk assessment. You will be able to ask any questions you have, and from this point forward the session will continue as normal, and together we can work out what you want to achieve from counselling.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a counsellor who places the will and the spirit of my clients at the heart of my practice. My goal is to help you empower yourself so that you can get the most out of your life. I imagine you’re looking for therapy because you're in a difficult place at the moment. Perhaps you are feeling stuck, and you don’t feel able to move forward with your life without some help. That's very natural, as everyone needs help sometimes.

Perhaps you are stuck in depression or anxiety, or are having trouble with the relationships in your life. Together we can bring you a clearer perspective on your situation, and work out why you are where you are today. We can help you get in touch with what you want in your life, so you can see how to move forward into a new chapter.

I have 10 years experience working in mental health, with young people and adults with a wide range of complex needs. I have also worked as a professional musician throughout my adult life, so I also bring my own exploration of the creative journey to my work as a counsellor.

Practice description

Together, week by week, through building a meaningful therapeutic relationship we can help you find whatever it is that you feel that you are missing in life.
