About me and my therapy practice
Prioritising presence, deep listening, and relational depth, I believe in the healing potential of a trusting relationship. Working collaboratively with you, my wish is to co-create a place of safety and connection where you may be free to explore whatever brings you to this space.
I integrate a range of psychological theory into my counselling and psychotherapy practice. This includes humanistic psychology and existential philosophy, polyvagal theory, social constructionism, and neuropsychology.
I have a MSc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I hold the view that we are the experts of our own lives. When we find ourselves in a place where we can be present and connected to our own experience, within a supportive relationship, we may discover a vast ocean of inner wisdom that guides us along our journey of life. As a compassionate and supportive companion to your journey, I wish to empower you to take the lead on what to explore and focus on within the therapeutic space.
Practice description
You may have an idea of what you’d like to explore during counselling, or you may simply have a feeling that it may be something you would like to explore.
Things that some people work with during counselling and psychotherapy include:
Discovering and exploring your sense of purpose, meaning and values in life
Making sense of who you are, where you’ve come from, and where you’re going
Telling your story
Exploring choice, agency and your personal power
Healing and recovering from trauma, abuse or chronic stress
Processing past experiences, thoughts and feelings
Separating who you are from who you’ve been told you are
Working with experiences of shame and emotional pain
Experiencing a secure relationship where you can be met with empathy and unconditional positive regard
Discovering and exploring your unconscious world
Moving towards self acceptance
Exploring the language and the wisdom of the body
Noticing and exploring obstacles and patterns that may keep you stuck
Acknowledging and healing from intergenerational patterns and wounding
Experiencing yourself, fully in the here and now
Being curious about the many parts that make up ‘you’
Understanding and communicating your needs
Navigating difficult relationships and life experiences
Discovering barriers that obstruct your unfolding potential including self-limiting beliefs that do not reflect who you really are and what you're capable of
Exploring spiritual dimensions of life
Acknowledging the social / political / cultural contexts that contribute to our lived experience such as discrimination, inequality and oppression
Creating a nourishing space where you can just ‘be’ without having to work on anything in particular
Of course, this is not a prescriptive list and you may wish to use the counselling space in a completely different way. I work with clients to develop a unique and bespoke approach that is tailored to meeting you wherever you are at.
My first session
I offer a free initial phone call (or online video call), which can give us both a chance to meet one another and get a sense of how we might work together. This usually lasts between 15-20 minutes. I may also invite you to complete an optional questionnaire, as a way of exploring your hopes and preferences for your counselling experience.
This initial conversation is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions about counselling and psychotherapy, and perhaps tell me a little about what you may hope to get from our time together.
