About me and my therapy practice

My name is Katie Reid, and I am a fully qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, registered with the British Association for Counselling Psychotherapist (BACP). I offer a humanistic integrative approach to counselling, which means our work together will be uniquely tailored to your needs, with you at the centre of the process. My goal is to provide a compassionate and supportive space where you can explore your feelings, gain insight, and work toward meaningful personal growth.

Practice description

In my humanistic counselling practice, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions. As sometimes space to process what has, or is happening is powerful in helping us to get where we want to be. In our sessions together I put you at the heart of the work we do and use various theories which can allow exploration, understanding and acceptance in your journey.

The relationship is key in our work together and I feel it is really important that we have a brief talk before your first appointment is made. This is so you can get a feel for what I can offer you and how therapy can support you.

I’m dedicated to supporting those affected by trauma, particularly domestic abuse survivors. I currently work at STARS (Sexual Trauma and Recovery Services) in Poole, where I’m involved in a project offering comprehensive support to survivors. My role includes counselling, assessment, and empowering individuals to heal and rebuild their lives.

My first session

During our first session, we will discuss an agreement for our work together, and I will conduct an assessment to better understand your situation and needs. This will give us the opportunity to talk through your concerns and expectations. It's important to me that you feel comfortable, as this is essential for us to work effectively together on your journey.

The process will be tailored to your individual needs, but generally includes the following phases:

  • Assessment
  • Agreeing on a focus
  • Interventions/Resources
  • Evaluation/Review
  • Termination

If you're unsure whether counselling is right for you, or if you'd like to try it for a few sessions before committing, that's absolutely fine.
