About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to Edinburgh Therapy Service, a place where you can find support and understanding for when life becomes difficult. I'm Cristina, a qualified therapist based in Edinburgh, providing therapy in English and Spanish.
I use different therapeutic approaches, like cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT), and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), to help adults and young people over 16. CBT helps us identify and change unhelpful thoughts, while ACT guides us towards a meaningful life, even during tough times. CFT focuses on self-compassion, and mindfulness helps stay present without judgment.
I customize my approach to fit each person's unique needs. For instance, when addressing eating disorders, I employ CBT-E (cognitive-behavioural therapy enhanced), a specialized adaptation of CBT designed for such cases. Likewise, for OCD, my focus shifts towards CBT integrated with ERP (exposure response prevention).
My approach combines insights from psychology, neuroscience, and Eastern philosophies, offering evidence-based tools for a deeper connection with yourself and the world.
I specialise in anxiety disorders, OCD, and eating disorders, and I also work with low self-esteem and self-criticism, perfectionism, stress, depression, life changes, loss and grief, burnout, and self-harm. My qualifications include a CBT therapy diploma, a master's degree in psychology, and a COSCA certificate in counselling skills. I've also received training in suicide prevention, self-harm mitigation, and eating disorders.
I gained experience working with organizations like Saheliya and Stop It Now. Furthermore, I've been an integral member of NHS multidisciplinary teams at the Cullen Centre and CAMHS (Edinburgh) eating disorders team.
