About me and my therapy practice

"If you keep doing the things you've always done, you'll keep getting the things you've always got". H Ford

Feeling trapped in cycles of the past can be like being on a treadmill, getting nowhere and unable to break free from patterns that no longer serve you.  If you're struggling to navigate life's challenges, feeling overwhelmed by circumstances beyond your control or perhaps  grappling with loss and finding it difficult to move forward, therapy can enable you to step away from the cycle and find new ways of managing your life.

It's okay to ask for help. In my practice, I offer a comfortable and containing environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment. Together, we'll work at your pace to address the issues that are weighing you down, by uncovering the underlying causes of your struggles and examining how past experiences and external influences have shaped your present reality. Together, we'll explore issues such as depression, anxiety, loss or feeling stuck by seeking meaning and insight that can guide you towards a more fulfilling life.

Take the first step towards change and get in touch to arrange an initial consultation.

Practice description

The focus of my work is you and what you bring to the session. I offer a relaxed approach that engenders empathy and safety, enabling you to be seen, heard and believed.  In working with me, you are free to express yourself authentically; you can openly explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences without fear of judgment.

Through the relationship we create in our work together, we can also create an opportunity for you to learn, develop and find meaning in your past.  From exploring childhood experiences, to the thoughts and feelings that drive you today, self-awareness and understanding are at the core of what we do.

My approach centres on helping you reframe how you see your past experiences and in engaging your curiosity, I can help develop insight into what's causing you distress so that you gain agency over your emotions, decisions and relationships.  You can redefine the way you think about your lived experience and build emotional resilience to face what’s to come.

With extensive experience of individuals whose upbringing may have hindered emotional expression, I can help you to navigate the boundaries between your own feelings and those influenced by others, through the unconscious impact of relationships and societal expectations. I create an environment in which thinking about difference and how it impacts you on issues such as trauma, shame and identity, can be informative in understanding yourself and what you want to change.

I don't offer quick fixes or easy answers. Instead, I provide a space for deep exploration and reflection, where you can gain clarity and meaning. By focusing on what truly matters to you, we lay the foundation for a more purposeful and fulfilling life.

My first session

At the core of our work together lies the dynamic between us—it's the cornerstone of effective psychodynamic practice. Understanding why you've chosen therapy, delving into the background that led you here, and comprehending the impact of your struggles, are all vital steps in this process.

  • We begin with an initial complimentary 15 minute telephone consultation to obtain an overview of the issues and why you feel therapy would be useful to you.
  • I will then carry out an in-person assessment (1 hour 30 minutes) for me to gain a more in-depth understanding of your background and needs, and to discuss the practicalities of engaging in therapy with me.  (All in-person/online sessions are charged - please contact me for fees.)
  • Should you wish to continue, I will offer a contract for ongoing sessions, each lasting 50 minutes.  These take place weekly at the same time and place, the commitment to which is an important aspect of the work we do together.

In our initial session, you may find yourself speaking cautiously, perhaps with moments of silence. This is entirely normal. My role is to attentively listen—to your words, silences, and everything in between. Through this process, we uncover the patterns and themes woven into the fabric of your narrative, revealing insights that can guide the way forward.

While this process may initially evoke discomfort, rest assured that it is a natural part of the therapeutic process. As you become more familiar with our sessions, you'll find yourself increasingly at ease, allowing for deeper exploration and understanding.
