About me and my therapy practice

I provide counselling and psychotherapy using various approaches and adapt the therapy to your specific needs and difficulties. I work in a client-centred approach, which means I will incorporate all of my experience and knowledge in various therapeutic approaches to tailor the system to your specific needs. This includes and is not limited to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mentalization and Cognitive Therapies, Mindfulness as well as Integrative Psychotherapy.

Like many psychotherapists I have a wide range of experience with various difficulties but I have a particular interest and specialist training in childhood trauma. Often clients might struggle with self-harm, suicidal behaviours and other self-destructive behaviours as a way of regulating their distress.

Practice description

Finding and choosing a therapist can feel like a big step, particularly if you have struggled with your difficulties for a while. Its important to find a therapist with whom you feel able to to be open with and who you think can help you. I offer prospective clients a free 20 minute consultation in the first instance. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other a little and for me to understand your difficulties and reasons for seeking therapy. During this call you can also get a feel for how I work and ask any questions you might have. If we both feel we can work together we’ll arrange a first appointment to begin therapy. If I don’t feel we can work together I will explain why – normally this is because I will not have the skills or training to help you work on your difficulties and towards your goals.

I see clients for short term and long term depending on their needs, therapy is normally weekly

My first session

Following an initial call and agreement of working together at a mutually agreeable time our first session is more about assessment, your chance to tell me your story and experiences in life. This is important for me to understand how you make sense of the world and how your past experiences could be impacting current difficulties.

Clients are offered a therapy session on a rolling basis at the same time each week, this session is reserved for you for the duration of your time in therapy. Sessions are invoiced on the last day of the month unless another method is agreed prior to commencing therapy. As this session is reserved for you, all sessions are charged for regardless of reason. I will however endeavor to offer an alternative time if you cannot make a session where I have availability, if this is not possible the full session will be charged.
