About me and my therapy practice

I am a  BACP accredited counsellor, an EMDR therapist and a Relate trained relationship counsellor with over ten years of experience which equates to thousands of therapy hours. My main areas of interest are anxiety and depression, relationship issues, identity and self-esteem issues and trauma. Although I  am based in Cambridge and also work for the Staff Counselling Centre at the University of Cambridge, I am trained in online therapies and carry out a majority of my work online with successful outcomes comparable to face to face work.

I have helped many individuals and couples with unhelpful patterns that have stopped them from establishing and maintaining healthy relationships with their family, friends and romantic partners. I have also successfully worked with clients who suffer from anxiety, depression, low self-worth, perfectionism, self-sabotaging behaviour, procrastination, imposter syndrome, work stress, loss and a general feeling of being stuck. My goal is to help you transform your life in a positive and meaningful way.

When working with trauma, including PTSD and childhood developmental trauma, I use EMDR therapy which is an evidence-based, gold standard modality in this area. EMDR can also be used to help clients to work through difficult or disturbing experiences or self-limiting beliefs.

In my work with couples, I am quite directive and often give “homework” to my clients. I provide psychoeducation as part of our work together and draw heavily on adult attachment styles research as well as using various tools and strategies in order to resolve relationship issues.

Practice description

I have an MPhil in Psychology and Education from University of Cambridge. I also have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and Diploma in Relationship Counselling from Relate. My counselling training included Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, CBT and Systemic approaches. In my practice, I work eclectically, borrowing 'tools' from different approaches. This means, I base my intervention on the particular issue brought to therapy by the client as well as what approach I think the client would best respond to. I am also informed by the relational aspect of therapy, putting a lot of emphasis on being warm, caring, accepting and non-judgemental.

My first session

Our initial session will be what is called an 'assessment session'. This will allow me to get to know you better so I can give you a more informed feedback regarding my suitability as your counsellor and answer any questions you may have about the process. After this session, you can have a sense of whether you click with me and make a more informed decision regarding whether you would like to start working with me.
