About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced integrative counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I can offer different types of therapy depending on what is right for you, I can provide short- or long-term counselling to adults from 18 years upwards and cover a range of issues including abuse, anxiety, bereavement, depression, loss, personality disorders, PTSD, relationship difficulties, self-harm, stress.

As your counsellor I can offer you a safe warm caring therapeutic environment and usually find face to face sessions are the best way of building a relationships.  I know we all lead busy lives therefore I'm also happy to provide virtual appointments.

My training as a counsellor was a 3-year part time counselling course, Diploma in Integrative Counselling at Inter-Psyche Training Institute in Dartford, it is a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy accredited course. Inter-Psyche works in tandem with the NHS Kent and Medway partnership.

Once qualified I spent 10 years working for a nationally recognized mental health charity, I provided mental health support and counselling for individuals seeking low-cost therapy. This job role helped me to gain experience of supporting diverse individuals presenting with varied, sometimes complex mental health conditions, an important learning at this time was to see the person and not their diagnosis. During my employment I progressed to the role of Lead Counsellor and I managed the counselling service, this gave me the opportunity to coordinate the service, including supporting the student trainee counsellors on placement as well as providing one to one therapy for my own caseload. I gained experience of supporting people with complex mental health conditions including personality disorders.

I now offer counselling through my private practice, I am a registered member of the BACP.

Practice description

My private practice is based in Bearsted near Maidstone, it is a discreet location with parking on my drive available and my home is in close proximity to Bearsted train station. I have a comfortable garden room with heating and air conditioning.

My integrative counselling training means I can draw on different types of therapy depending on your needs but my overarching approach is person-centred. I will offer you a respectful, empathic space for you to safely discuss your thoughts, feelings and emotions without judgement, our therapeutic relationship is essential to successful therapy. I will listen attentively to understand your worldview and how you relate to others.

I have a breadth of experience counselling those undergoing counselling training and have worked with student counsellors. If you are a student counsellor please contact me for a concessionary rate.

My first session

Attending counselling takes courage and our first session is an opportunity to get to know each other and will include an informal assessment to cover necessary administrative information and to understand your current situation. It would be an opportunity to discuss the counselling process and for you to tell me what you current difficulties you are facing.

I will ask you some questions about yourself, and what you would like to achieve from attending counselling. This is your opportunity to ask me any questions and to establish if you feel comfortable working with me. The initial session would be for 30 minutes over the phone and is free of charge.

If after the first call we are both comfortable with each other we can schedule a first face to face appointment. If I am unable to help you I can signpost you to a more suitable service/organisation.
