About me and my therapy practice
As a Counsellor I can help you gain relief from issues that are currently causing you emotional and/or psychological distress.
I specialise in addiction, bereavement and employment related issues.
I started counselling in the 1990s, and gained an MA from the University of Warwick in 1998.
The training was in integrative therapy, which means that I can draw on a range of different counselling approaches to suit your needs.
As a Registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP No. 00500790).I subscribe to, and am bound by, the BACP Ethical Framework and hold professional liability insurance.
I source and receive continuing professional development (CPD) training.
I work in conjunction with a Clinical Supervisor, a requirement of ethical working. The Supervisor monitors my work effectiveness.
Practice description
My practice is based in Coventry. I offer face-to-face sessions or online/phone sessions via WhatsApp as the need dictates.
Counselling becomes effective as, in a confidential space, I listen to you in a non-judgemental way, building what is called a ‘therapeutic relationship’, one where you can feel safe to explore the issues brought. From that basis we can work towards you resolving or reconciling those issues.
My first session
After you make contact we will hold a brief (10-15 mins) introductory phone call during which we would: -
- Identify the issues that have brought you to consider counselling;
- Establish any goals of therapy you may already have;
- Establish what is called a ‘counselling contract’ which would include: -
- Establishing and determining confidentiality boundaries;
- Defining when it is appropriate to make contact outside booked sessions;
- Managing missed or cancelled sessions due to illness or unforeseen events;
- Gaining an overview of your general wellbeing and safety;
- Noting who could be approached in the event of an emergency;
- Noting your GP’s contact details. If your wellbeing appeared to be at high risk I would contact your GP for advice.
We would determine whether face-to-face or online/phone WhatsApp sessions would work best for you.
Counselling typically consists of weekly sessions of up to 50 minutes.
