About me and my therapy practice

As a counsellor I believe in the Person Centred Approach which is based on the core principles of a non-judgemental attitude, empathic understanding and genuineness. The Person-Centred Approach has developed from the work of Carl Rogers (1902-1987) which at its core has an unshakable belief that all people have an innate tendency towards growth and fulfilment of their own personal potential.

Therapy is a process based on building relationship, this means I will work along side you, offering a space where you can talk in confidence.

Practice description

I offer counselling online via Zoom or over the telephone. Online counselling offers certain benefits but there are also limitations that are worth bearing in mind when deciding which type of therapy will best suit your needs.

Benefits

 Counselling/therapy from your own home at a time that suits you

 Secure encryption software offers confidentiality and peace of mind

 No chance that you may be seen entering the counsellors practice

 Therapy at a time, place and pace that suits you

 Access to counselling may be more immediate

 Flexibility to choose the technology you feel is best for you: telephone, audio or webcam

Things to consider

 Are you comfortable using internet technology?

 Would you prefer to see your counsellor face to face?

 Do you feel you can express your feelings well using words?

 Do you feel your situation is too complex to discuss via the internet?

 Is there a computer terminal that you can use privately without interruption?

 There are no nonverbal cues or body language for you or the counsellor to read this can lead to misunderstanding.

My first session

I offer a free 15 minute initial call before you begin counselling. This is a place to ask any questions you might have, a space for us to get a sense of each other and decide if we are the right fit.

If we decide to continue and book in a first session I will then send you a copy of the counselling agreement to read and accept. I will also send you a short form to complete with your contact details and information about any emergency contacts or medical information I may need to be aware of. Both these are completed electronically through a secure service that protects you and your information.

In the first session you will have chance to ask any questions about the Agreement and talk through any concerns. The first session is charged at my standard rate and is usually about getting to know you, getting to know what you want to bring to counselling and what you hope to get out of it.

About me and my therapy practice

As a person centred supervisor working with the Hawkins and Shohet model I will be guided by the supervisee and what they what to bring to the supervision. My focus is on working with the relationships, the client therapist relationship and therapist supervisor relationship. What is happening in the therapist supervisor relationship is often replicating what is happening in the client therapist relationship. This can provide insight on the clients relationship patterns and behaviours. In gaining a better understanding of this the therapist can then explore interventions and ways of being that fit their own therapeutic style.

Practice description

I am a person centred practitioner however as a supervisor I am able to work with a range of different modalities and will work with your frame of reference.

I have trained in Hawkins and Shohet's seven-eyed model of supervision which looks at all aspects of the therapeutic relationship including what the client brings, explorations of interventions, what is happening in the relationship between the client and supervisee, the supervisee development and wellbeing, what is happening in the supervisory relationship, what I can offer as the supervisor and the wider context in which the counselling takes place.

My first session

Will be a time for you to explore what you would like from the supervision relationship and me as a supervisor. What are your areas for development. Are there any particular challenges you have in your current work and do you think I would be a good fit as a supervior.
