About me and my therapy practice

I've worked as a qualified counsellor  since 1995 in the NHS, voluntary & charitable sector and in private practice. I'm happy to offer a free brief intro chat by phone to help you decide if you'd like to meet. I am neurodivergence and gender affirming.

I'm a counsellor who works in an integrative, relational way which means that I blend different ideas as I work with each individual and I see the professional therapeutic relationship between us as a transformational thing in itself.

My aim is to provide a compassionate, accepting space for you to explore, understand yourself and your relationships more deeply. I don't just work with words and thoughts but also with how you experience emotions in your body.

Practice description

I'm an integrative counsellor and EMDR therapist specialising in working with trauma, grief in its many forms, including pregnancy and infant loss and with the impact of physical illness.

I work with adult individuals in private practice and also take referrals from  charities.

I'm not a sit silently nodding therapist. We will work collaboratively and supportively. I will also offer gentle challenge when required, offer insights and give you space to notice what is going on for you.

We will keep our sights on the future and what you are aiming to change whilst we look at past experiences and how they are affecting you in the present.

I'm informed by a range of theories including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), Person-Centred, Attachment Based Psychodynamic Theory and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in my work.

This is a really useful article if you are considering EMDR to help understand how it works in the context of a therapeutic relationship.

I have personal experience of pregnancy loss and neurodivergence.

My first session

When you make an initial enquiry to me it's helpful to briefly tell me the reason you are seeking therapy at this time.

The starting place is finding out if we are a good fit to work together. I won't necessarily work with everyone who contacts me. If it seems I don't have the right experience to fit your needs or if it seems I might work in a way that's different to what you want then I may suggest or help you find an alternative therapist.

If we decide to go ahead with further appointments, we would agree a time to meet, usually weekly.

I offer sessions online across the UK and in person in Muswell Hill.
