We're working to improve access to counselling and psychotherapy through the NHS and all the health systems of the UK

We want everyone in society to have quick and easy access to counselling and psychotherapy, free at the point of need, through the NHS. This includes having an informed choice about the care they receive from a wide range of evidence based interventions.

We want to see more employment opportunities within the healthcare systems of the UK for counsellors and psychotherapists and are committed to promoting the skills, experience and expertise of our members, while combating further marginalisation of counselling and psychotherapy within the NHS.

We believe there should be a full choice and availability of free at the point of need psychological therapies for everyone in society through healthcare systems in the UK. Counselling and psychotherapy are integral to achieving this ambition and counsellors and psychotherapists are vital part of the workforce.

Working with BACP members, partner organisations and across all teams at BACP, we're striving to:

increase the availability of counselling and psychotherapy for all within healthcare systems, including both mental and physical health – for a more psychologically informed NHS
increase employment opportunities in the NHS for all counsellors and psychotherapists
ensure that a full choice of psychological therapies is available universally free at the point of need to everyone in the UK through the NHS
continue to strengthen the evidence base for counselling and psychotherapy
