Are you a psychodynamic counsellor or psychotherapist? How do you respond when a client talks about another therapist in your consulting room?
About the Research
This study explores how psychodynamic practitioners understand and make meaning of moments when clients refer to other therapists (past, concurrent, or imagined).
These references can evoke complex emotional and relational responses, yet remain underexplored in psychotherapy research.
Your reflections – whether the moment felt subtle or significant – can contribute valuable insights into this area.

or • Trainees in the final year of a recognised psychodynamic clinical training who are currently seeing clients under supervision
• Practitioners whose integrative orientation draws on psychodynamic ideas or methods, even if this is not their primary modality.
• Working in private practice, charitable organisations, or university counselling services who are
• based in the UK and willing to reflect on clinical moments involving client references to other therapists
