I'm Miriam, and I am conducting research into Outdoor Counselling and Psychotherapy, for my MSc dissertation. This project was inspired by my own life experiences of the therapeutic benefits of nature and my recent career pivot to work towards becoming an outdoor therapist...I asked myself the question, if I am good indoor therapist, will I automatically be an good outdoor therapist?

This research is situated at a time when access to nature-based therapeutic practice is rapidly expanding. The study examines how therapists experience the transfer, adaptation and development of therapeutic competence beyond the traditional therapy room. There is recognition across contemporary research that outdoor therapy practice appears to be developing more rapidly than the profession’s shared understanding of competence, training and good practice within this emerging modality.

Through semi-structured interviews with qualified outdoor practitioners, the research aims to explore pathways into outdoor work, learning and development experiences, and the complexities and tensions encountered in practice.

I am seeking participants who are UK therapists, registered with a recognised professional body, and currently practising outdoor counselling and psychotherapy. If that's you, and you can spare an hour of your time to talk to me, I would love to hear form you!

Please see here for more information.

If you have any questions about the project please email me at M.R.Davies@wlv.ac.uk. If you'd like to jump straight in, then you can find the participant information and consent form at the link below.

Once completed, I will be in touch directly to arrange an interview. https://wolves.questionpro.eu/t/AB3vCPsZB3wcFc
