You are invited to take part in a IPA research study exploring the lived experience of female counsellors when counselling male clients.
What is the purpose of the study?
This study is being conducted as part of my master’s dissertation at Waverley Abbey College. I have a keen interest in exploring how gender may or may not impact the therapeutic relationship and outcomes, particularly from a female perspective. The aim is to develop a deeper understanding of current counsellors’ lived experience and to consider the personal impact, implications for practice and to gain a greater understanding of issues affecting males today.
What will it involve?
- One semi structured interview for approximately 60 minutes, held either face to face (if suitable) or online via Microsoft Teams.
- If face to face interview is preferred, travel to the agreed location would be required.
- You will be asked a series of questions about your experience as a female counsellor in working with male clients and explore the impact that has had on you and your practice.
- I will actively encourage you not to share any identifiable information about your clients, supervisor or organisations you are involved with.
- There are no costs to you and no payments for participating
If this is something you can help with and you are a:
- UK-based, qualified counsellor or psychotherapist
- Registered with a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP or ACC)
- Aged 18 or over
- Female (cis gender)
- Worked with 3 or more male clients
