If you're a professional who could help shape the future counselling and psychotherapy landscape, we invite you to apply to join one of our Board delegated committees. 

These committees are responsible for supporting the development and ongoing delivery of the organisation’s strategy as well as providing the oversight that ensures our polices and processes are being applied consistently and effectively. As a member of one of our committees, you will have the opportunity to contribute directly to the way the organisation operates and have oversight of the various workstreams held by each committee. 

As a registered charity, our two charitable objectives underpin our work and we use our many resources to promote these aims. In all of our activities, whether we're providing services to members, commissioning research, campaigning or ensuring that professional standards are maintained, these are the objectives that guide us, and the principles by which we measure our success. 

Our charitable objectives are:

  • to promote and provide education and training for counsellors and psychotherapists working in either professional or voluntary settings, whether full or part-time, with a view to raising the standards of the counselling professions for the benefit of the community and in particular for those who are the recipients of counselling or psychotherapy
  • to inform and educate the public about the contribution that the counselling professions can make generally and particularly in meeting the needs of those whose participation and development in society are impaired by physical or psychological health needs or disability

We're looking for individuals with a wide range of experience to join our four committees. Please note there is no expectation that appointed members of a committee will have any direct knowledge or experience of counselling and psychotherapy. 

Our committees perform an integral function and comprise of BACP members and non-members. It would be desirable, but not essential, if you have supported or worked within the chairy sector. Working within a delegated committee can be a recognised stepping stone for those wishing to become Trustees or Board members of this or other similar organisations. 

We are recruiting for roles within the following four committees:

Finance, Risk, Audit, Policy and Performance (FRAPP)

FRAPP holds responsibility for developing the financial strategy of our Association. Four FRAPP appointments are available.

Public Protection Committee (PPC)

PPC holds responsibility for developing the public protection strategy of our Association including the development of the BACP Register. Two PPC appointments are available.

Research Committee

The Research Committee holds responsibility for developing, informing and monitoring our research strategy and oversees our research procedures, policies and plans. Four Research Committee appointments are available.

Governance, Remuneration and Nomination Committee (GRaN)

GRaN ensures effective governance across our Association and holds responsibility for considering and determining the framework for remuneration, benefits and incentives. Two GRaN appointments are available.

Each role requires the following time commitments:

  • attendance at four meetings per year
  • 20 days (160 hours) committee related work per year

These are volunteer roles and are not remunerated, though all reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed by the Association.
