About me and my therapy practice
I am in private practice in North Shields where I see children, teenagers and adults. I also meet with parents as a necessary part of the work with a child or young person.
(I also practice at Gosforth, but these rooms, at a shared centre, are currently closed.)
My general approach;
I offer an 'at-depth' psychological approach; while this does take time, it offers more permanent change.
As well as offering general counselling and psychotherapy, I am interested in and have particular experience of psychotherapy with adults who have recurring difficulties. These may include repeated problems with personal or work relationships; with acute or ongoing anxiety; with managing anger; patterns of addiction or self-harm. These sorts of problems may be the result of trauma or other difficulties from childhood or adolescence which were not attended to at the time.
I am also experienced in therapeutic work with children, teenagers and young adults, (age 4-25). I am able to see children and young people with a wide range of emotional and/ or behavioural problems.
I mainly work via non-directional play therapy for children, which allows a child to express in their own way what is troubling them.
I have considerable experience in working with children who have serious developmental problems. (ie. ADHD, ASD or PDD.) In 'play' with me, these children have been able to achieve significant improvements in their ability to learn, to communicate and to generally manage better.
I offer a flexible, indirect approach for teenagers, adapted to the needs of each young person.
I originally trained in adult counselling, however, I've undertaken significant further study, including 4 years of specialist psychotherapy training to work with children and teenagers.
I charge 50 pounds for an initial consultation. While my 'standard fee' is 45 pounds for an individual session, fees may be negotiated on an individual basis.
I am currently willing to offer a number of places for low fee sessions, where these are needed because of the current situation. Many individuals and families are struggling to cope with increased anxiety and stress, as well as other difficulties because of the current circumstances.
Please contact me to discuss this. If you feel that you need some therapeutic help, but are concerned about fees, I will do what I can to help.
My first session
I am currently willing to offer a short Skype or telephone consultation at no charge.
