About me and my therapy practice

I am Trudi, a BACP Accredited counsellor. I'm here for you if you are struggling  and would like to talk this through.

You may be feeling lost and unsure. Maybe you do not wish to burden family or friends with your concerns, or do not feel you have someone  able to listen without judging you or without becoming over-involved. Your main concern may be that you feel overwhelmed and not sure where to turn or where to start.

I am ready to  offer you a respectful, explorative and empathic space. You may be feeling distress,  flatness, shame, guilt, fear, anger, disillusion, emptiness or confusion.  Your distress or difficulty may be connected to  experiencing losses, such as loss of job, security, relationship, or  a bereavement of someone significant to you.

I am here to help you  make your own sense of these experiences.  I am driven by my belief in human beings' capacity to grow, learn and work towards fulfilment, if given space and respect. I will offer you a confidential  space to explore, reflect,  recognise and adjust to knowing the real you.

My counselling experience includes:

counselling with charities such as local Minds and a local Women's counselling charity; counselling for a cancer charity and in an NHS Talking Therapy service. In addition to being a counsellor, I am a qualified and experienced lecturer in counselling  and have also been a service manager for counselling services.

Training/ qualifications includes:

Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, CPCAB;

Level 5 Diploma in CBT, CPCAB;

Level 7 Advanced Certificate in Person Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD), University of Central Lancashire, (recommended by NICE)

Level 6 Counselling Supervision (OCN).

Online & Telephone Counselling Certified Counsellor (Counselling Tutor, 80 hours CPD);

Grief and its Complications; Trauma-informed Practice; Attachment Informed Practice, 30 hours CPD, Portland Institute for Loss and Transition ;

Working with Suicidal Ideation in LGBTQ Clients, Online Events.

Practice description

I work online and over the telephone with adults living all over the UK. I am trained and experienced in working in a range of ways, guided by the needs and preferences of the individual I am working with. I may draw on my CBT training  or my Person Centred and Humanistic therapies.

My professional experience over the last 12 years has been predominantly in the field of mental health. This has included: working for two  local Minds;  a  mental health charity for people who have experienced homelessness; for charities supporting people living with dementia and visual impairments;  for the fire service and ambulance service in community  roles.  I have counselled with 6 different charities in 3 different parts of UK, including  a National Bereavement Charity, a national cancer charity and a women's counselling charity.

I bring all this experience together to support and value you as an individual. Together we will help you find a fuller and truer version of yourself that you are currently missing.

I am registered with ICO and insured with Towergate I have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate.

My first session

You may  contact me by text, voicemail or email. I offer an  initial conversation of up to 15 minutes for which there will be no charge.

We can use this time so that  you understand what to expect from working with me and for both of us  to get a sense of what kind of  'fit' we may be, assessing if I am the best counsellor for you and your circumstances.

If we decide to work together, we will agree our first session of 50 minutes and in this session, we will go through a 'working agreement'. This will include my confidentiality agreement and limits to it; my cancellation policy, ethical approach and the frequency of our sessions.

Importantly, this is also your  chance to ask questions  about the counselling work we can undertake.

Having agreed this together, we will begin  where you are ready to begin-  taking that first step towards a more fulfilled, adjusted, settled and clear sense of 'you'.

About me and my therapy practice

I’m based in Greater Manchester, providing supervision predominantly online to counsellors working with adults. Please contact me to discuss if in-person supervision is preferred.

Why supervision with me?

Through supervision I believe supervisee and supervisor collaborate on a shared learning and development journey. We both may reflect more deeply and from different view points, on our own counselling practice, for the benefit of the clients we work with.

I love to explore  with supervisees, so they learn together with me, whilst being supported and developed by an experienced practitioner, as I give my focus to their practice and  processing.

 I believe it is essential we work towards bringing our whole authentic selves to supervision and as such I strive to create a space that it is possible to  share successes and areas of concern or confusion. I am confident we can have light-hearted, humorous moments together, as well as times where I may offer some challenge and suggestions for change.

Our work together will be underpinned by two well-known models for supervision:

Inskipp and Proctor's Functional Model of Supervision (1993) and Hawkins and Shohet's Seven Eyed Process Model (2000.)

My relevant work experience:

• counselling via video, telephone and face-to-face

• Person-centred modality at the core of my practice

• counselling within charities, NHS and private practice settings

• accredited with BACP

• qualified tutor of counselling, taught level 2 to level 4 diploma

• line-managing placement and qualified counsellors

Prior to qualifying as a counsellor: Stay-at-home-parent, Museum Educator, Volunteers’ Management in the Third Sector, Housing Support for people living with severe and enduring mental ill health and in Community Engagement for the Fire Service and Ambulance Service

Practice description

Our supervision may be your primary supervision or in addition to other supervision (for instance to focus on a specific client group or area of your practice or for accreditation applications.)

Accreditation Support

An area of special interest to me is offering focused support with applications for BACP Accreditation. This process can be daunting and you may feel you can benefit from the accountability of scheduled sessions with me, to help you apply your practice to the specifics of the criteria, so you feel more confident and clear about your submission.

 If expressing yourself in the written form is a challenge for you or if your inner critic is limiting your belief in yourself to become an accredited practitioner, I have the experience and enthusiasm to guide you through this.
