About me and my therapy practice

I have over twenty years experience of supporting children and young people in a variety of settings including youth services, youth offending and court services, community services,  and primary and secondary education.

I completed a post graduate diploma in Counselling Children and Young people in 2020 and have been working as a counsellor for the last three years in schools, the charity sector and within the NHS.

I offer a welcoming, confidential, non judgemental space for children and young people to explore their thoughts, feelings, relationships and life experiences. Having the space to focus on themselves and process how they think, feel and experience can be transformative and provide relief, clarity and hope.

I have a warm and down to earth personality and I respect individual uniqueness and circumstances. I am skilled in building meaningful and trustworthy counselling relationships with children and young people so that they can engage in the therapeutic process and move forward in their lives and their development.

I do not believe that any one therapeutic modality is right for everyone. As an integrative counsellor I am trained to use person centred, psychodynamic, systemic and cognitive behavioural therapies. My work with children and young people is uniquely tailored to their individual needs and importantly for children and young people I am trained to use creativity and play within the counselling I provide.

I have experience of supporting children and young people with low mood, anxiety, divorce, conflict, self harm, disordered eating, trauma, criminal behaviour, loss and bereavement.

I am also a certified Parent Child Attachment Play practitioner and can support parents and carers with their attachment relationship with their child.

Practice description

I can work with children and young people aged 8-18 years old.

I offer weekly counselling sessions at my own counselling room in Kenilworth.

I am happy to work with children and young people on a short or long term basis.

My first session

Before one to one counselling sessions begin with a child/young person I provide a consultation appointment with parents/carers. There is a charge of £25 for this appointment which allows you to share your reasons for seeking counselling support for your child/young person and allows me the opportunity introduce myself and explain what support I can offer.

If we decide together that I am the right person to support your child/young person we can then make arrangements for them to attend a first counselling session with me. This first session will involve me completing a counselling assessment with them, discussing with them what areas they want to focus on in counselling and any goals they'd like to achieve in counselling. If they are happy to we will  completing some questionnaires about their emotional and mental health that we can use to track progress and this first session is an opportunity for me and them to get to know each other through conversation and/or creative activities.

Further counselling appointments are then  planned and regular. All appointments last for 50 minutes to an hour.
