About me and my therapy practice
Is stress or anxiety holding you back, making you irritable and stopping you from being the person you want to be?
Are thoughts about the past or concerns about the future overwhelming you? Is life getting on top of you?
We can work together to:
-Help you to cope with the demands of work and home life
-Process the painful past so that you can focus on enjoying the present
-Help you to say “no” so you have time for yourself
- Explore low mood and ways to help lift it
-Build your self-esteem
-Be less short-tempered
-Prioritise the things that really matter to you
-Explore self-care
-Equip you with tools that you can use now and in the future
When you are a busy person it can feel difficult to fit in one more thing, but continuing to “push through” can be counterproductive, leading to high blood pressure and burnout.
I work face-to-face from offices in Lisburn, or we can work online using Microsoft Teams.
I offer flexible appointment times, including early morning and evening appointments, to fit around your commitments.
The most important factor in therapy being successful is the relationship between the client and the counsellor. I offer a free 15 minute phone call during which you can ask any questions and see if we would be a good fit for each other. Please get in touch via email or use the number provided to text or call. Alternatively you can book a first session straight away.
Practice description
Has life got on top of you? Are you feeling tense, worried or irritable? Are your relationships a source of distress? I offer a warm and non-judgemental space and support as you move through these issues.I am a fully qualified integrative therapist, so I blend a range of approaches (person-centred, CBT and psychodynamic) to offer therapy that helps to get the best results for you. We can work together on tools to help manage the stress and overwhelm in the here and now as well as exploring the root cause of it.
- Certificate in Integrative Counselling.
- Diploma in Integrative Counselling with a Christian Perspective.
- I am committed to continually learning and improving my practice. I have chosen to expand on the minimum requirements of therapist qualification by studying a BSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy, which I'm currently in the final year of.
How do you know if I’m the right counsellor for you?
It is so important that the counsellor you pick is someone you feel comfortable with. It can be tricky to judge this, so let me tell you a bit about myself.
I have been a busy mum for the last 14 years and have juggled motherhood alongside working in a fast-paced setting for 12 of those years. I have also volunteered as a foster carer, which has brought a wealth of experience and understanding.
I have experience providing counselling in a community setting, for GP practices and I have also facilitated group psychoeducation courses.
I am a christian but provide counselling to those of all faiths and none. I have been through my own journey with the church and appreciate that other people may have been through the same. It is crucial to me that my clients experience a non-judgemental, warm and welcoming space.
I know how daunting speaking to a counsellor can feel, but I also know that once I got over my initial nerves I found counselling really helped to get me “unstuck” from the place that I was in. I want to offer that to you too.
My first session
I normally use the first session to get an overview of what is going for you and where you are in your journey at the moment.
I will ask you what has brought you to therapy at this time and try to get an idea of how your day to day and week to week life looks.
I prioritise being an effective therapist, so I will ask you what your goals are for counselling and we can look at how we might achieve them together.
