About me and my therapy practice

Whether you are overwhelmed or in distress by events in your life, have a niggle that life could be more satisfying, or you are seeking balance and a sense of peace, counselling may help. I  would welcome the opportunity to work with you.

You will be offered the time and confidential space to talk with someone independent, trained and experienced in supporting you to explore whatever you need to.

I will not give you advice or opinions. I may let you know where to find reliable information, however, my main aim is to be there for you, using my skills and experience, to enable you to find new perspectives and your own solutions.

You can choose for us to work in-person in my confidential therapy room in my home, online where I would use Zoom for our session, or we can 'Walk-and-Talk' using the benefits of being outdoors.

Practice description

You will be in control of what we talk about and might choose for us to look at:

Your thoughts, feelings and behaviour in general;

What has happened for you to feel like you do;

How to cope with anxiety, stress and pain;

Your relationships, current or past, to better understand yourself and others;

The underlying reasons for your sense of guilt or shame, or

All the above.

This will mean that we will work in a way that is unique to you and bespoke to what you bring, so please contact me, so we can find out if we would work well together.

There are creative materials available in my therapy room. Using our imagination can often support the process. It is up to you whether you want to work this way.

I am also qualified to offer techniques to allow you to work in a relaxed state of mind, moving away from the stress of 'fight, flight, freeze' towards 'rest and digest', which often helps us to reflect and process issues in a more open and beneficial way.

My first session

I offer a free, non-obligatory, 20-minute first contact, either over the phone or via Zoom. This will not involve counselling, but will give us an opportunity to agree how we could work together, whether we would meet in-person, online (I use Zoom) or outdoors; 'Walk and Talk'.

For our full first session together, we then meet either in-person or online. We spend time making a more formal agreement on how we will work together, a proforma of which I would email you in advance, together with my Privacy Notice. We would also begin to look at a focus for our sessions together (not set in stone - this may change throughout), and we would agree on how many sessions you would like, or leave it open-ended. It is an opportunity for you to bring any questions about how I work, that haven't been answered. There is normally also some time left to begin exploring what is happening in your life.
