About me and my therapy practice

Welcome,  I aim to be as welcoming and empathetic as possible, seeking to understand issues from your perspective. I believe in the unique qualities of every person and feel privileged to be invited in to somebody else’s life and experience. It can take time to establish a trusting relationship with someone which is why it is important to have a contract which we will discuss in our first session.  I have worked in counselling in many different environments since qualification in 2011 and understand that it can be very hard to make that first step towards seeking help.

I work in a trauma aware way; offering an invitation to you to share the impact of your experiences and providing a space where you can explore them and start to make sense of what has happened.

I also offer EMDR therapy which can be immensely helpful for those who have experienced traumatic events.  When we meet initially we will discuss the different treatment options for you and what you might be looking for.  What is important is that you feel you have choice over how we work together.

I meet people from all backgrounds with varying issues which they want to address.  I have wide experience of working with trauma, depression, anxiety, chronic illness, many different forms of abuse (including emotional, sexual and physical); bereavement – both before and after death and also other forms of loss. I also work with clients who are at a turning point in their lives and need to stop and re-assess.   Working online means that I can work with people from all over the UK. It can also be a way of providing what you need at the time: sitting in your own safe space or with your favourite blanket or pet.

I am ADHD informed, working with many clients with different forms of neurodiversity; I am welcoming and flexible enabling therapy to be effective for everyone.

I am registered with WPA and other health insurance providers who can help towards the costs of personal therapy.

Practice description

My approach to my work is integrative and informed by you in that I refer to different models and theories adapting the work and activities to the needs of my clients. I seek to create a safe environment where you will feel comfortable to explore a variety of issues. As an Accredited Member of the BACP I work within its Ethical Framework referring to its guidelines as and when necessary and receiving regular supervision.

Since my initial qualification in 2011 I have provided counselling for a variety of organisations including IAPT, those in vulnerable housing, hospices, GP referrals, Sheffield University and my own private practice.

I work face to face and online, offering a variety of modalities to suit my clients needs best.  I offer walk and talk therapy which can be of great benefit using the outdoor environment and exercise to help access and process feelings and emotions.  Outdoor sessions can take place in Sheffield or the Peak Park.

EMDR Therapy offers an effective and opportunity to work with many different types of trauma, we will explore what might be best for you.

My first session

In the first session I will take notes and ask you some questions about your history and why you are seeking counselling now.   I will also take some details including the contact information of a trusted person for you and your GP information.  It may take a full  hour instead of the usual 50 minute session.  We will discuss the contract (which I will have sent to you via email) and the GDPR agreement.  It is your opportunity to explore what you might expect from counselling and ask any questions you may have.  I look forward to meeting you.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer clinical supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists mainly online.  My supervision practice is warm and relational, encouraging supervisees to bring their whole selves to the work while maintaining an ethical and educative oversight to their work.

I encourage theoretical discussion about the work and aim to support therapists through their own modality.

Practice description

All of my work recognises the power of relationship and this holds true in my supervisory roles.  I practice integratively and encourage my supervisees to be open to both challenge and praise offering a safe environment where they can bring their work and the impact it has on them.  I encourage safe working and am guided by the BACP ethical principles and framework.

I recognise the impact of life and our wider environment on our work and encourage my supervisees to explore the ways in which it impacts both them and their clients.

Depending on where you are on your ongoing training journey I offer an educative function to the supervision whilst encouraging individual growth and development.

As an EMDR practitioner and having worked in many trauma-focused roles I have a deep interest in this work and how supervision might support therapists undertaking it.

I offer a free introductory chat for 30 minutes where we can explore whether we could work together and your expectations and hopes for the work.
