Our membership categories and those of the Partnership of Counselling and Psychotherapy Bodies (PCPB) partner are fully aligned to the columns of the SCoPEd framework

For BACP our: 

  • registered membership category is aligned to column A 
  • accredited membership category is aligned to column B 
  • senior accredited membership is aligned to column C

You don’t need to do anything if you don’t wish to move membership categories, and we’d like to reassure you that you’ll still be able to:  

  • continue to be recognised as a qualified, credible and ethical counselling or psychotherapy professional 
  • keep all benefits of being a BACP member
  • provide all the services you currently do 
  • practise competences in other SCoPEd columns providing you have the right skills, knowledge, training and experience to do so 

If you wish to move membership categories, there are a range of accreditation routes to enable BACP members to demonstrate their SCoPEd competences and continue their career progression as a BACP member. The route that’s right for you will depend on your training and experience. 

Ensuring accessibility and widening opportunities sit at the core of these routes, which will recognise the wide variety of training pathways by which our members enter the profession and then continue to develop post-qualification. 

If you identify as living with a disability or learning difference, we can offeradditional supportto help remove any barriers you may experience with the application process.

Student BACP members 

As a BACP student member, you aren’t represented in the SCoPEd framework, but you will be pnce you've qualified and joined our Register. However, you can make use of the framework and the accreditation routes which offer guidance about what kind of training and career progression options might be right for you in the future. 

Individual BACP members 

As an individual member you won’t be represented in the SCoPEd framework until you’ve joined the Register. You can make use of the framework and the accreditation routes which offer guidance about what kind of training and career progression options might be right for you in the future. 

Registered BACP members 

As a registered member you’re aligned to column A of the SCoPEd framework 

If you wish to move between our membership categories and you’re eligible, there are four accreditation routes to apply for accredited membership or four accreditation routes to apply for you can apply for senior accredited membership.  The accreditation route that’s right for you will depend on your training and experience.

Accredited BACP members 

As an accredited member you’re aligned to column B of the SCoPEd framework 

If you wish to move membership category and you're eligible, you can apply for senior accredited membership. There are four routes for you to apply. The accreditation route that’s right for you will depend on your training and experience.

Senior accredited BACP members

As a senior accredited member you’re aligned to column C of the SCoPEd framework, you don’t need to do anything, but you may be interested in the accreditation routes available to our members.

Organisational BACP members 

As an organisational member you won’t be represented on the SCoPEd framework but you may be interested in the accreditation routes available to our members. 

If you’re a training provider which offers a BACP accredited course or BACP approved qualification, you'll have until early 2028 to integrate any necessary changes to your training programmes. We're working directly with accredited courses and awarding bodies offering approved qualifications to achieved this. 

Retired BACP members 

As a retired member you won’t be represented in the SCoPEd framework as you are no longer practising but you may still in interested in what it means to our members.
