What is the purpose of this research?
My research study explores the lived experience of counsellors who work with clients with compulsive sexual behaviour disorder (CBSD). I am seeking to explore how working with clients with CSBD impacts the person of the counsellor. Despite the growing prevalence of client's experiencing CSBD, there is limited qualitative research into how counsellors feel impacted by working with this client group, and any possible relational, emotional, cognitive, behavioural, physical, spiritual or other effects on the counsellor.
This study hopes to add to the knowledge about the personal effect on counsellors working in this area. It is further hoped it can be a potential resource to aid supervisors and training facilities supporting them, and assist counsellors considering working with clients with CSBD.
Participation Criteria
I am looking to interview qualified counsellors who are have had clinical experience working with, or are currently working with, adults with CSBD. Participants are required to be registered with a professional counselling organisation, trained to at least diploma level and practising in the UK.
What will participation involve?
Participants will be invited to take part in a semi-structured, online zoom interview, lasting approximately 45–60 minutes.
The interview will be scheduled on a day and time chosen by participants, and they will be sent a link for the online platform.
Interviews will be audio recorded to ensure accuracy and later transcribed for analysis.
All interviews will be confidential and interview data will be anonymised
A participant information sheet in consent form will be provided before you decide whether to take part.
Should you wish, a short 10 minute telephone conversation can be arranged to answer any of your questions.
If you are interested in taking part or have any further questions, please see here and contact Rebecca Pearson.
