About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Leanne Barrett, the founder of Mental Care Therapies Ltd and a highly trained professional with experience working in the NHS.
I’m passionate about supporting people on their journey toward emotional well-being. With a background in counselling and psychotherapy, I combine evidence-based techniques with a holistic approach, tailoring support to individual needs. As a trauma-informed and neurodivergent-informed therapist, I am committed to providing compassionate care that respects your unique experiences and perspectives.

Practice description
What to Expect
I take a warm, easy-going approach to therapy, creating a safe and supportive space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. I’ll listen carefully to what you share and reflect it back to you, helping you hear and understand yourself more clearly. At times, I might ask questions or gently encourage you to dive deeper into something you’ve said. There’s no need to worry—we’ll always go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
I also pay attention to your body language and might occasionally help you notice certain mannerisms or patterns. This can provide valuable insights and help you understand yourself on a deeper level.
In-Person Sessions
When you meet with me in person, you’ll have a clean, private, and comfortable space where you can feel at ease and focus on your well-being.
Online Sessions
For online sessions, I ask that you find a quiet, safe space where you won’t be disturbed. This helps ensure the session remains focused on you and your needs. A stable internet connection is also essential so that we can work together without interruptions.
Your therapy sessions are your time to explore, reflect, and grow. My role is to support you every step of the way.
My first session
Your First Session
It’s completely normal to feel a little nervous in your first session, and I’ll do my best to help you feel comfortable and at ease. Each session will last 50 minutes.
In our first meeting, we’ll spend some time discussing practical details, such as:
- How much time you’d like between sessions.
- Whether you prefer in-person or online sessions.
- What to do if you’re unable to attend a session or if I need to reschedule.
I’ll also explain important information about:
- The kind of details I might record.
- How I keep your information confidential.
- What happens if I assess you to be at risk of harm.
I understand that this can feel like a lot to take in during your first session, so I’ll email all of this information to you afterward for your reference. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel informed and ready to begin your therapy journey.

About me and my therapy practice
I work with you by offering a warm and easygoing approach. I listen carefully to what you say and then reflect it back to you so you can hear it for yourself. I might ask questions or perhaps ask you to tell me more about something you said. Try not to worry, we will go at your pace. This is because the session is for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and share what is on your mind.
My first session
In the first session you might feel nervous, I will do my best to put you at ease. Each session will be 50 minutes in length. We will spend some time at the beginning talking about things like how long a gap you would like between each session, what happens if you cannot make a session or if I must cancel a session. I will explain what information I might record, how I will keep your information confidential, and what happens if I assess you to be at risk of harm. Sometimes it can be overwhelming in the first session, so I will send this information to you by email.
