About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified psychotherapist working in Watford. Whether you are feeling sad, stuck, anxious, or just caught up in old patterns that are creating more problems, therapy can help you explore your emotions and process them in a healthy and growth promoting way.

We are currently living in unprecedented times. Two of the world’s biggest stress factors; a global pandemic and environmental crisis are currently adding to the stresses and strains of daily life, not to mention possible trauma, painful memories, and overwhelming feelings from your live experience of life so far.

I offer a private and warm space where you can talk about your internal thoughts and feelings, thus enabling you to see them more clearly and process them at your own pace. It is understandable that it will take time to build trust and confidence to open up, however, having someone to walk with you to explore new pathways through life is a powerful healing experience.

I trust that we all know what is best for us, and that we have the power to choose the direction that we want to go in, in order to lead more fulfilling and satisfying lives. My role is to facilitate and guide you to make those changes and to heal, transform, and blossom as a person.

I trained in Buddhist psychology which means that I include a spiritual dimension to our sessions. As a Buddhist therapist, I use a range of techniques, including mindfulness, CBT, and DBT, as well as draw on methods and theories from a range of modalities to help untangle the difficulties in your day-to-day life and explore your personal history.

Practice description

I have a private practice in Watford, and see individuals in person or online.

The session usually lasts 50 minutes, and in those 50 minutes, I will be guided by the client. The therapeutic process is a trusting one, and through using a variety of techniques, the client and I will be on a journey of discovery; of what techniques work for you as a client and of what there is to know about oneself and one's life.

I have experience working as a Buddhist chaplain in psychiatric hospitals in Leicestershire. I also have several years experience working with other therapists from a Buddhist background through a service that I set up after I qualified. I have roughly 15 years of experience working within the field of mental health to people of faith and no faith. I understand the cultural and religious pressure on people and their communities, as well as the struggles within families and traditions and the challenges of living with difference in a modern western culture.

I use a variety of techniques that can be found in many other schools of psychotherapy depending on the needs of my clients. As a therapist, will listen without any judgement, and will endeavour to work with you to bring about positive and wholesome changes in your life.

About me and my therapy practice

I supervise from a Buddhist perspective. My training and background is in Buddhist psychology and I did my training at the Amida Trust which then changed to the Tariki Trust and also to the International Zen Therapy Institute.

This approach has a particular and detailed understanding of how the mind works based on 2,500 years of observation and experience. If therapists have trained in this approach then we will continue to deepen our understanding of the terminology, principles, values, and theories that underpin this type of therapy all with a view to better understand the client so that the therapist can work in a way that benefits the client.

This approach is a spiritual one, and sees the connections, the relationships, and life in general as essential to the well being of the client and will seek to understand the client from a holistic point of view.

Areas of interest will be at looking at the whole person. A person whose life is story that started within a the story of their parents and so on, and also whose story will inevitably come to end in this physical world. So issues around birth, family dynamics and death are all part of what we can expect to be looking at along with other presenting issues that the client brings to therapy.

Practice description

I am happy to meet in person or online using software applications like zoom. I will be guided by the supervisee and will check with the them about how we and what we talk about during the session. Sometimes, there will be a need to check in with how they are doing, and other times, it will be important to learn about other techniques that one might not have been trained in, and whatever, the needs are, I will facilitate and supervise in a way that responds to the needs of the supervisee who in turn is responding to the needs of their client work.

My first session

During the first session, you will get a chance to interview me and I will also get a chance to ask you some questions in order for us to get to know each other better.

Depending on your client load we will discuss some practical issues so that there is reassurance that you are meeting your professional needs as a therapist/counsellor.
