About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Nettie and welcome to my practice called My Safe Space Therapy. I'm a fully qualified psycho-therapeutic counsellor with over 10 years experience. I'm a trauma-informed counsellor and I work in an integrative way. Based on my clients' needs, I draw on different counselling theories, such as humanistic, psychodynamic and CBT (and its derivatives). I may also do inner child work, use sand play and props, e.g. stones and shells, Playdoh and other sensory toys to support you. I'm a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and I abide by its Ethical Framework for Counselling Professionals.

Practice description

My counselling practice offers a specialised service in trauma caused by sexual abuse and rape and domestic abuse and; issues around weight management. I have a good understanding of autism and ADD and my practice is neuro-affirmative. I'm LGBTQ+ affirming and kink-aware. I offer walk and talk therapy if you prefer to work somewhere different. I’m bilingual having been brought up abroad and my background is interpreting and translating and teaching English as a foreign language.

I offer a warm, emphatic, non-judgemental, accepting and trusting safe space where you can tell me your story and we can explore what is bothering or concerning you. Together we can find ways to relieve the pain and discomfort and rediscover your resilience and inner strength.

My first session

I always offer a free 15/20 minute chat to ask questions about the different ways that I work and to help you decide if I am the right therapist for you. Once you have agreed that you want to start, we set a start date and I will email you details of where I practise.

In your assessment session, I will ask you to go through a working agreement and a privacy policy and I will ask you about your current life situation, background, and what has brought you to therapy. This helps me to start building a bit of a picture of you. This is also a space to work out together what you want to get from therapy and if you wish to work in an open-ended way or for a specific amount of time.
