About me and my therapy practice

I work with an open mind and an open heart to deliver what each individual or couple is seeking for their, healing and development.

I will match my various skills and techniques in many modalities as well as my considerable experience offer you to what you need and want from your therapy sessions.

We will start with where you are and deal with your most immediate challenges, fears, concerns or worries so that you can see things start to shift for you.

You can then choose how deep or far back you want to go. Many people start with me for a defined issue then once resolved choose to stay on and work on other things. Others stop when the issue they came for is resolved and then come back in the future should another issues surface. For these people there can be months or years between groups of sessions. They treat it as resource to return to if life becomes difficult or new challenges occur. Still others resolve the issue they came for but do a maintenance session with me once a month for a while.

Practice description

I have been a qualified counsellor since 1999 and a clinical supervisor of other counsellors cases since 2000.

To date I have delivered approximately 22,550 hours of Counselling and Psychotherapy (individual, Couples and Groups) as well as 7800 hours of Clinically Supervising other counsellors.

I am educated to a Post Graduate level and have degrees in both Psychology and Counselling as well as Diploma in Clinical Supervision.

My practice is Integrative which means that I have training and experience of working in different counselling styles and will intuit which suits you and what you have come for, sometimes using different modalities over the time we work together. This is not something you should be aware of in your sessions as it should feel seamless and smooth.

Over my career spanning two and a half decades I have worked with many different people from age 14 years old and above with many different needs in many different cultures. I however specialise in working with those suffering from depression, anxiety, Sleep issues, obsessive, compulsive behaviour, stress, loss, chronic illness, neurodiversity. With pregnant women, new parents, parenting issues, young people, couples, family dynamics, employees, creatives, LGBTQIA+.

My first session

During a first session I will spend time starting to get to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy and what you want to get out of your sessions.

Your first session is an opportunity to see if you feel I am a good fit to work with you by sensing that you you are feeling heard, understood and respected.

It is an opportunity for me to establish that I have the right skills to work with you and what you are bringing. If not I will suggest other avenues you could take than may be more beneficial. If I do have the right skills you will be able to sense that as you will already be benefiting from the connection we have started to build and, depending on what you bring, you may already have something to go away with had has been helpful & or something to try after the session.

I will ask you to take care of yourself and initially not to say more than you feel comfortable with as it is important that you develop trust in me before you tell me some of the bigger things you need and want to say. If you do this too quickly your may feel over exposed. I will attempt to contain the session so that this doesn't happen but if your proceed to say more than you feel comfortable with it, I will assist you with what to do to regain a sense of control and containment.

Finding the right therapist will make all the difference to the success of your time in therapy. I will urge you to consider things before booking in for a second session to engage the theraputic process.

If you are coming for couples work it is important that each of you is happy with the way I work and pleased to work with me.

About me and my therapy practice

When supervising I work in a collaborative way that supports the personal and professional growth of my supervisees.

I create a safe space to explore cases that may not be going to plan as well as celebrating the cases that my supervisees are proud of and looking at what went well and why,

This takes the form of hour long supervision session once and up to three times per month depending on the case load, level of risk in said caseload and the degree of experience of the person I am supervising as well as other factors going on for them.

Practice description

I have been a counsellor since 1999 and a clinical supervisor since 2000.

My first supervision role was for Oxfordshire County Council Youth Counselling Service who paid for my supervision diploma. Since then I have worked as supervisor in multiple organisations as well as within my private practice. Most recently I worked weekly for an organisation where the clients were neurodiverse most commonly ASD, ADHD, ADD, OCD, Dyslexic & Dispraxic.

To date I have delivered approximately 22,550 hours of Counselling and Psychotherapy (individual, Couples and Groups) as well as 7800 hours of Clinical Supervision.

I am educated to a Post Graduate level and have degrees in both Psychology and Counselling as well as Diploma in Clinical Supervision.

My practice is Integrative. I lean toward Humanistic work.

However also enjoy clinically supervising Psychodynamic practitioners as in 2000 I completed a year long diploma in Psychodynamic Group work attached to the Warneford Hospital in Oxford and have since worked in organisations that demanded Psychodynamic practice.

Over my career spanning two and a half decades, have worked in Private Practice, Private Organisations; such as Employee Assistance Programmes, Critical Incident Networks, Private Schools and Universities, Government Organisations; such as, NHS, Army, Police, Fire Brigade, Crown Court, CAMHS , Schools, Youth Offending, etc.

As such I have plenty of experience of working Time Limited and Open Ended services.

My first session

When you book in for a first session the time will be spent getting to know each other and discussing the parameters for your work with me thus exploring if we are a good fit and if we sense we will work well together.

A good supervisory relationship forms the backbone of your clinical practice and as such is vital to find a supervisor who is a good match.

As each person needs something slightly different from their supervisor, if, after the first session, you want to progress with working with me then I will check in with you regularly (initially every few sessions) to see that you are happy with how we are working together and take corrective steps if needed so that you get what you need from your supervision sessions.
