About me and my therapy practice
Welcome. I am currently offering Zoom or telephone sessions, and after the first few sessions I now offer outdoor sessions if you would like to meet in my local country park using social distancing.
These are difficult times for us all. Perhaps you are encountering difficulties brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, or there may be something else that makes likes feel difficult.
There are times in all lives where things get on top of us and we could use some help in sorting them out. Counselling can give you the space and time to talk confidentially with someone impartial and understanding, to gain more insight into what is affecting you and how you might manage the issues in ways that work for you as an individually.
It is natural to feel apprehensive about counselling. Please be assured that I will be aware of this, and aim to offer warmth and an accepting therapeutic relationship where we may talk openly. Do email or call me if you'd like to see if we 'fit' and whether you'd like to work with me.
I offer weekly sessions, on a time limited or longer term / open ended basis, with regular reviews of how you feel the work is going for you. I generally work Tuesdays - Thursdays and offer as much flexibility as I possibly can, especially for those with changing caring or work patterns.
I have experience of working with people in all life stages and value diversity. There is no one size fits all, despite our universal humanity! I find it is helpful to discuss how we perceive ourselves and invite discussion at the start and as we work together. I see you as a unique individual and listen to what is affecting you so we can work together to explore this and think about dealing with the difficulties. I use a range of approaches that can help with a range of difficulties. These are listed further below. We will discuss how you might like to work and review this as we go along. I am aware of the possibility of trauma in our lives . Sometimes we're aware of a general sense of unease or feel 'on edge' a lot of the time, perhaps feeling this also in our physical body. I work in a 'trauma-informed' way where this is present.Sometimes we feel we are somehow to blame for our life experiences and can't imagine a way forward. We may feel different in some way to others. Sometimes life changes with a traumatic event or series of events. Often we live with, or experience periods of anxiety, low mood and low self esteem. It is possible to work with these states and begin to live more lightly, feeling better in and about ourselves and better towards others. I have knowledge and experience of working with people with ADHD and ASD. Sometimes we experience loss and grief. I specialise in serious illness, palliative and end of life care, and bereavement. I have worked in hospital, community and hospice environments in a therapeutic capacity for 30 years, and studied in this field gaining a Master's degree. I work with individuals, couples, and families in this important area.
My first session
Do please contact me by phone or email initially. I aim to get back to you by the end of the same working day if at all possible. We will arrange a free 20 minute phone conversation to consider together if and how we might like to work together, and if you wish arrange our first assessment appointment. You may of course wish to approach other counsellors before deciding who might best suit you.
My fee is usually £60 per 50 minutes. Discounts may be possible.
