About me and my therapy practice
I have been qualified as a person-centred counsellor since 2015 and have worked as a volunteer counsellor with various organisations since 2014. I completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology and English Literature back in 2003.
I have had further counselling training in the areas of bereavement and sexual abuse. Although I am also trained as a play therapist and have worked as a counsellor with children and teenagers, I am choosing to work only with adults at this time. I have worked with clients from diverse backgrounds and with a range of presenting issues. I am very passionate about attending to diversity issues in my work where appropriate, as I know that our various social positions can affect our experiences and viewpoints, as well as have implications for our healing processes.
I believe deeply in person-centred theory which is about listening without judgment and valuing the personal experiencing of clients in order to promote therapeutic change. In addition I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the heart of any therapeutic experience. I work as a counsellor because I love to support clients in achieving their personal therapy goals and I am honoured to be part of their journey every time.
I also currently work as a Trainee Well-being Practitioner for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Calderdale. I offer support to children and young people for anxiety and low mood.
My availability is week nights after 6pm and Saturdays up until 4pm.
