About me and my therapy practice
I am a BACP registered and accredited therapist. I use an integrative approach, so that I can adapt the way that I work to suit the individual client. I have qualifications in Psychology, Psychotherapeutic Counselling, and Counselling up to Masters level. Most of my work draws on the theory of Transactional Analysis and EMDR. I have completed five years of training in Transactional Analysis, and am qualified to use EMDR as part of my practice. I have over 13 years of experience in delivering therapy to clients.
From the outset, I seek to provide a safe space for clients, so that they feel more comfortable to talk about their past experiences and current difficulties. I listen with compassion and without judgement, so that I can gain understanding about what it is like for clients to live their lives. This helps to make decisions about how we can work together to resolve problems, heal from difficult experiences and make changes.
I have previously provided therapy for Cruse Bereavement Care, and have also counselled survivors of historical sexual abuse and rape at a Rape Crisis Centre. I am also qualified to work with children and young people, and have delivered counselling in schools when working for Relate and in private practice.
I now work solely in private practice. A larger part of my work involves therapy with individuals who have experienced recent or historic trauma. Many of us have experienced a level of trauma in our lives, which can continue to affect us in the present. Healing from trauma can enable us to lead more fulfilling lives.
Therapy may also be helpful if people feel 'de-railed' or 'out of sorts' without being able to pinpoint any particular experiences that have caused them to feel that way.
Practice description
In-person sessions take place in a lovely building along New Walk.
The costs of sessions vary according to length and type of session. Therapy for individual clients is currently £50 per hour.
Some EMDR sessions and couple sessions are 90 minutes long and are therefore charged at a higher cost of £65 per session.
Concessions are available for those on lower incomes and counselling trainees.
My first session
The purpose of the first session is for us to decide whether working together is a good step at this time. During the first session, I will talk with you about how I work, and also ask you questions about yourself and what has brought you to therapy at this time. I am very open to answering any questions that will help you to decide whether you would like to proceed with therapy.
The initial session is offered free of charge.
